Here's the third "foremother" of Jesus at the beginning of the second part of the Bible - Ruth. You might even call her an asylum seeker. She's certainly from a nation that's kept at arms' length by the place she's intending to go. Can she be accepted? Listen in and find out! After last week's look at the first person listed as a "foremother" of Jesus at the beginning of the second part of the Bible, today we have number 2 - Rahab. Last week we studied a woman who pretended to be a prostitute. Rahab is one. Why does God call out such women? Maybe for the same reason that he calls out you and me - because we need him.

Back to normal this week - Church is back home after the weekend away ... but who's this Tamar person - she hardly seems like a 'normal' person, yet Jesus himself was descended from her. Tamar is the first ancestor of Jesus we'll be looking at in the run-up to the Christmas season and none of the others seem exactly 'normal' either - maybe each of them is more like you and me than seems possible at first glance!

Church is playing away today ... it's the annual Church Weekend, today based at Whitemoor Lakes next door to the National Arboretum. The sound quality there was not very good (sorry), but one thing was the same - a good look at God's word to find out what he's got to say to us - looking at the closing chapter of the Bible book of Ruth.

This is the last key feature of the church that we're covering ... and there can hardly be a more important one: Prayer. What an astounding privilege to be able to talk to God, one-to-one. Something to do today!

Some people sing in the shower. Football supporters sing at a match. You may sing along with a recorded song you're listening to. But going to a building to sing as a small crowd about a person who can't be seen - that's wierd isn't it? Why on earth do we do it - and enjoy doing it rather a lot!

OK, back to 'The Marks of the Church" which we started in the spring. A mark of our church is the Bible and how we use it. We see what it's got to say, and we try and do what it says we should do, and we aim to pass on this understanding to others. Why? Because God had it written down and still speaks to anyone who reads it sincerely. Try it!
