Star Wars 7x7: A Daily Bite-Sized Dose of Star Wars Joy

Leia still has the capacity to surprise. Thanks to The Last Jedi novelization, we find out that she - along with Admiral Ackbar and other leaders of the long-forgotten Rebel Alliance - kept important secrets from the New Republic. Oh sure, the Alliance shared a lot of its military information with the New Republic in the days where it needed to defeat the Imperial remnant once and for all. But she didn't tell them everything. And the secrets she kept saved the Resistance and the galaxy at large time and again. Punch it!

Let me set the scene for you. Kylo Ren wakes up in the wreckage of Snoke's throne room. Hux is standing over him, scratching some weird itch on his side. (LOL!) Rey is gone, which means she had a golden opportunity to kill the unconscious Ren. But she didn't. Why? We all thought it was because heroes don't do that. The Last Jedi novelization reveals that Kylo thinks it's almost like she cares about him. But her real reason is a rather unexpected one... Punch it!

There's no big midnight toy event for the Solo: A Star Wars Story movie release this time around. Instead, the toys have been revealed in a post on StarWars.com. And as we've done for previous movie releases, we're checking the toys out to find out what they might have to tell us about the upcoming movie. One thing off the top: the way we thought things are going to go down on Mimban has been thrown into uncertainty... Punch it!

In the first commercial, we heard young Han Solo boast that he would become the best pilot in the galaxy. Then in the teaser, Qi'ra told us she might be the only person who knows what Han really is. Finally, in the full trailer, we have a more fully formed version of the hero from Solo: A Star Wars Story. Punch it!

We got to hear Han and Tobias in the Super Bowl commercial. We got to hear Qi'ra in the teaser that followed. But we didn't get to hear anything Donald Glover said as Lando until the most recent trailer. (Yes, there was indistinct yelling in the teaser, but that doesn't really count, now does it.) But even the non-verbal - and the yelling - moments tell us a few things about the young man in Solo: A Star Wars Story, as well as some interviews he's given. And the advice he got from Billy Dee Williams is downright brilliant. Punch it!

It's all about the inferences right now. Emilia Clarke's dialogue as Qi'ra in the Solo: A Star Wars Story footage we've seen so far - as well as one of her costumes - hints at how she and Han left things from their early days, and how well one of their adventures turned out. Punch it!

Drawing from interviews with Ron Howard, Larry Kasdan, and Jon Kasdan, as well as the Super Bowl commercial, teaser, and trailer, here's what we know so far (with no spoilers!) about Tobias Beckett, the mentor character played by Woody Harrelson in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Especially of note: One dialogue exchange that could hint at a love triangle dilemma with Qi-ra, Tobias, and Han... Punch it!

From Han's early days as a Corellian ne'er-do-well, to his time in service of the Empire; from a potential posting on Mimban where he meets Chewie, to reconnecting with Qi'ra; from high-stakes gambling dens to high-stakes heists; all that, and so much more, in what's likely the final trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story. Our seven top takeaways are here... Punch it!

Thanks to the magic of novel narration, Jason Fry has shed some light on the secret history of the First Order and Snoke's involvement with it. No, of course, not everything has been revealed! But Snoke's ruminations in his throne room, prior to his unceremonious bifurcation, do include some very interesting new information in The Last Jedi novelization. Punch it!

The author of The Last Jedi: Expanded Edition (you and I know it better as The Last Jedi novelization, perhaps) sat down with me earlier in the week to talk about the process of creating the novel to complement the movie, tells the story of how that surprising prologue came to be, and much more. It's like it's "Star Wars 7x7: Extended Edition" for this interview podcast... Punch it!
