 This time we’re letting the show speak for itself. This week’s shownotes has less to do with the show itself and has more to do with THE STATE OF YOUR BEYOND THE FILMS. As you may have noticed this episode came to you on a Friday, not at all the typical Wednesday release you may be accustomed to. While we apologize for making you wait a few more days to get you SWEU Podcast fix, the change was necessary for our editor’s sanity. Mark has a lot of family events like Scouting, Choir, and Drama classes, that typically fall on Wednesdays, with the new addition of Jaina, his free time has been stretched past the point of breaking. The hope is that the extra two days will allow more breathing room each week and less stress behind the scenes. Aside from that adjustment to our schedule, some other small changes to the show will be implemented over time. All very minor, but all should increase your enjoyment of our show. Oh no! One of the two biggest collecting fan’s nightmare scenario’s come to life; Mark’s studio is flooding still! (Fire being the other) A soaked studio won’t stop his signal though, Mark, like the Rebellion struggles on in the name of freedom in the face of tyranny!

Jumping back into the comic, we have Jahan Cross, Super Spy! James Bond look-out, Jason Borne move over, Cross is the new spy in a galaxy far, far away. Another tragic hero of the Empire, blindly serving the galaxy’s greatest evil. The story is so good, Nathan fears they may advance the plot and jump the shark. Could it be the case with Cross? Mark hopes they take their time with Cross’s character. Both hosts find it one of the BEST current comic series out there.

This series pushes the envelope when it comes to adult content, but it also plays into the typical Bond style story that is the setting of this series. So we’re letting it slid this time.

Wait…. Han and Chewie factor in? Aren’t these two everywhere anyway? That’s ok, the hosts both enjoyed their use this time, and they will tell you why. Nathan explains the one thing that kicked him out of the series harder than a ship dropping out of hyperspace with a broken hyperdrive. Tehcno-Arachnophobia anyone? Mark prefers a Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fame style villain to the Techno-Spider-Human hybrid enemy that we got in the Iron Eclipse arc.

The hosts even wonder if Indiana Jones will be the next theme used down the road…. You never know.

Knight Errant, John Jackson Miller, Kerra Holt, Sith Space, and how many artists it took to bring it all to life, all on the next Star Wars Beyond the Films. YOUR Star Wars discussion podcast! YOUR ticket to the EU!

This week true believers, Beyonders, Fanboys, Fangirls, respected aliens around the galaxy, your EU Guru; Nathan P. Butler, and The Defender of the EU; Mark Hurliman, sit down to discuss the harrowing trip into the heart of darkness that becomes Kerra Holt’s tale.  So strap in and tighten your crash webbing, Star Wars Beyond the Films is setting off on another rapid-fire trip into the galaxy far, far away!

The hosts layout the stories that build the Knight Errant story. Nathan ponders if Knight Errant could be considered one of the darkest, and most depressing stories of the entire Expanded Universe.

They continue to discuss the art styles used, and how the characters were drawn from issue to issue. Mark likes the fact that the Sith’s history is starting to be explored more and more in the EU.  The setting allows for a darker story than most  story arcs. When the series reached Deluge, drug addiction played into the story, adding an element that hadn’t been seen since Legacy, and Cade Skywalker’s Death Stick addiction. Another Dark Side story brought to you by Dark Horse.

They also discuss John Jackson Miller’s style, and how he threads plots throughout certain series. In fact both felt that Miller still has more story to tell. Perhaps it is too soon to call Knight Errant finished? Your hosts both think so.

In terms of artists, Nathan points out how many different artists were involved with this series, as well as the varying styles from each artist. This isn’t always a good thing; as you will find out.

Nathan also points out that there WAS a model used for Kerra’s likeness back at Celebration V, unlike other works like Dark Empire which seemed to use likenesses such as Bruce Willis. This SHOULD have made Kerra’s look in the comic more concrete, and yet…. it did not.

How well does the Knight Errant novel tie into the comic series and vice-verse? Which arc was best? Which served the overall plot better; the comics, or the book?

They also looked at the covers of the comic series and chose their best and worst of.
