It's the moment we've been waiting for! Star Wars Episode VII has a title! Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the title of the next film in the franchise. Do we like it? Do we hate it? What does it mean? Can we read any hints of the plot from these three words? Does this mean that Star Wars movies are moving forward without episode numbers? All of this and more is discussed when Ron and Jp dive into the first real news to come out for the new movie since the cast was announced!

Jp and Ron pull out their 12-sided dice and Krull VHS tapes to talk about the rise of the science fiction and fantasy subculture of the 1970s. As we explore this era, we talk about how some of the geekier interests of the time might have led to or at least helped contribute to the success of Star Wars. Did Lucas write Star Wars knowing that there was a growing audience for this kind of subject matter or was he just at the right place during the right time? Music, video games, movies and novels...it seems like everything was becoming a little more geeky as people were looking for escapism from the harsher realities of the 70s. We also talk about how this culture's popularity started to wane by the early 80s with subpar imitators and ripoffs. Are we coming up on another renaissance of geek culture with the release of Episode VII next year or did it never go away? Join us as we dive into the granularity of the 70s!

Some people call him a space cowboy, some people call him a joker but we call him Mark Hamill. Join us as we discuss his career outside of the Star Wars saga. From his early start on TV and in movies such as Corvette Summer to his prolific career as a voice over talent. We try to stay on track with this actor even when he zigged where others have zagged. Jp and Ron take a break from the usual shows to discuss the latest leaks from Star Wars Episode VII. This time around a lot of descriptions of concept art are posted on the rumor sites. Are these all to be believed or are they just ideas that were thrown out a long time ago? Only J.J. and the Star Wars crew know the truth. Also, how powerful is Disney? Jp and Ron jump into the first of the new canonical Star Wars content (forgetting about The Sons of Dathomir) with a look at the novel, Star Wars: A New Dawn as well as the premiere of Star Wars Rebels, Spark of Rebellion. Although we are in pretty much agreement with the book, we end up having a lively discussion about show. Mildly stated, we have some pretty mixed feelings about Rebels so far. We'll let you know what we think is good and what we think is a giant misstep for the start of the series. Hint: it rhymes with "cookies."

For the first time in SWDOG history, Jp and Ron embark on a special two-part episode exploring the fascinating character of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. In this episode we talk about the inception of Darth Vader into the Star Wars films. We discuss the inspiration for the character as well as some other little known facts about this iconic figure. We both share our stories about how we perceived Darth Vader as young kids. Along the way we hope to shed some new incites into the character had complete our story of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.
