As per a Business Standard report, the stakeholders have accused Walmart of deducting taxes from their shareholdings to pay withholding tax to the government for capital gains made by them.

A withholding tax is an income tax that the employer withholds from employee’s wages and pays directly to the government.

In that case, an applicant can seek a certificate which could result in lower quantum of tax being withheld,” a tax official explained.

As per the publication, Walmart paid INR 7,439 Cr withholding tax, in September 2018, to the Indian tax authorities on payments made to 10 major shareholders of Flipkart.

Contxto – Brazilian startup Trybe raised R$42 million (US$9.2 million) this week in a Series A investment led by Atlantico.

Co-investors included Global Founders Capital, Norte, as well as returning investors, Canary, e.Bricks Ventures, and Maya Capital.

Trybe is a school that trains students in full-stack software development for a period of about 12 months.

The first is that its leadership is composed of founders who’d created AppProva, an edtech that gained five million students on its platform during its five-year run, before being sold to Somos Educação.
