In this episode of Stateside Gooners, Eric and Matt brave the snowy weather to bring you a sizzling breakdown of Arsenal's tactical prep for their Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle. With Bruno Guimaraes sidelined, they explore how Newcastle’s midfield might falter and why this could tip the scales in Arsenal’s favor.

The check in on what makes Arsenal’s coaching staff a cut above the rest, highlighting the pivotal roles of Albert Stuivenberg, Carlos Cuesta, and Nikolas Jover in supporting Mikel Arteta. With new VAR transparency rules coming into play, Matt speculates on how this might influence future officiating and ensure fairer play.

  • Blood, Memes, and Brentford Dreams: Arsenal’s Calendar Year Glory, Saka’s Fall and Nwaneri’s Rise

    Happy New Year, Gooners! 🌟

Arsenal begins 2025 on a high note, and so do we. In this episode, we tackle optimism (both in life and football), breaking down the Brentford game and its chaotic mix of slippery pitches, second balls, and tactical brilliance. Gabriel Jesus delivered again, but how do we cope without Saka? Ethan Nwaneri’s impressive showing sparks a heated debate: Should Arsenal stick with youth or dip into the transfer market?

We also examine Arsenal's calendar-year dominance—more points and goal differential than anyone else in England’s top flight. Is this a sign of things to come?

Meanwhile, the Sligers saga continues. Why haven’t Arsenal locked her down as a permanent manager, and what could silence in the boardroom mean?

Looking ahead, we (*swear wording*) preview Brighton, their surprising mid-table struggles, and the dangers of Mitoma. Along the way, we explore the history behind “Hove” and “Albion’s” ancient roots (hint: there’s a TJ Maxx involved).

Finally, we tip our hats to Sheffield Wednesday’s Windass for scoring a jaw-dropping 67-yard goal, kicking off 2025 in Beckham-esque fashion.

From memes to managers, from Brentford to Brighton, this episode is packed with everything you love about Arsenal—and a bit more.

Join us as we keep the optimism alive and laugh through the chaos.

  • Seasons Greetings: Arsenal Squads Double 3-2 wins, Twin Wins Against Palace, Jesus Gets His Due, and Lots More That is Funny & Tragic

Welcome to Stateside Gooners Holiday Edition!!

Whether you honor Christmas, Hanukkah, Solstice, or another seasonal celebration, we're all glad to support Arsenal Football Club together as one community.

In this episode, Matt, Eric, and surprise guest Natalie (our inside woman in the UK) cover our men's and women's dual 3-2 simultaneous wins against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup and Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League. We've already covered the venue change for the women so that their game could start concurrently with the rest of the games on the day, forcing them to host at Meadow Park while the men's EFL Cup hosted the Eagles at the Emirates. We break down both games concurrently, in a confusing, but ultimately satisfying conclusion that ended in satisfaction for both squads.

While the women started their winter break, the men faced Palace again in the Premier League to the satisfaction of us all. We're hoping that the celebration of Arsenal's Jesus doesn't end during the Christian celebration of Jesus, but extends through June to the summer break. We'll need a savior to take his place with our 'Starboy' out for a couple of months.

As always, we have a few terrible jokes and some not-so-quick things that will bring you to question why it's called 'quick.' Joy, confusion, and tragedy await in this episode.

  • From XG to OMG! Crosses, Cutbacks, and Confidence: A Tale of Two Arsenal Teams and One Creative Problem

This week on Stateside Gooners, we tackle the tangled mess that is Arsenal’s creativity crisis. How did a match against Everton—featuring more sideways passes than an overthinking chess game—turn into yet another chapter of “Low Block Blues”? We break down Arteta’s rigid system, the lost art of the cutback ball, and why Arsenal’s crosses feel more hopeful than precise. Spoiler: It’s not a numbers game; it’s a quality game.

On the brighter side, we celebrate the Arsenal Women, who overcame frozen pitches in Sweden, quick turnarounds, and a lack of sleep to grab three crucial points against Liverpool. Are they showing the men how it’s done? We think so.

Then, we preview a Crystal Palace double-header—because why not play them twice in one week? Will we see a Rob Holding redemption arc or just more missed opportunities?

In “Three Quick Things,” we chat the NBA’s Emirates Cup, hilarious Comedy Wildlife Photo winners (who knew penguins could steal the show?), and Miles Lewis-Skelly’s Premier League start.

It’s 73% possession, 100% passion, and the usual dose of laughs. Tune in for the highs, lows, and hippos of Arsenal’s week. #COYG

  • Frustration at Fulham: Missed Chances, Saka’s Duel, and Odegaard’s Milestone

In this episode of Stateside Gooners, Eric and Matt break down a frustrating weekend for Arsenal fans, starting with the men’s 1-1 draw against Fulham. Despite dominating possession and boasting an expected goals tally of 2.0 to Fulham’s 0.1, the Gunners struggled to find the back of the net, thanks in part to Fulham’s effective mid-block strategy. Saka’s duel with Robinson provided some sparks, and Odegaard reached a major milestone, captaining his 100th game for Arsenal.

The women’s team, meanwhile, showed the Gunners how it’s done with a commanding 4-0 win over Aston Villa, featuring a brace from Russo and standout performances from Beth Mead and Frida Maanum. Eric and Matt also preview Arsenal’s upcoming Champions League clash with Monaco, exploring the challenges of their 4-2-3-1 setup and the danger posed by players like Breel Embolo.

And because no episode is complete without some humor, they tackle the infamous haircuts of past Arsenal players, Kai Havertz’s love for donkeys, and another classic Spurs joke. Packed with insights, laughs, and optimism for the games ahead, this episode is a must-listen!

  • Cheeky Corners, Clean Sheets, a Red Devils Roast, and a Spurs Zinger

This week on Stateside Gooners, Eric and Matt talk about Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Manchester United at the Emirates—a game packed with standout moments. Timber scored his first goal as a Gunner, Saliba’s “cheeky” second sealed the deal, and Arteta’s side took control with 13 corners to United’s zero. Zinchenko’s smart yellow card and Raya’s big save were also key in a win built on smart set-piece strategy.

The Gooners also look ahead to Fulham—“Arsenal Lite”—and what to expect from familiar faces like Leno, Iwobi, and Smith-Rowe. Can the Gunners keep up the consistency and make it three clean sheets in a row?

Of course, it wouldn’t be Stateside Gooners without some Spurs jokes. Eric shares a great one before they talk about Arsenal’s corner success, Manchester United’s struggles, and the latest news about the coaching staff’s extensions. This episode is packed with laughs, insights, and plenty of Arsenal pride—don’t miss it!
