Stay Cool

Been loving these two songs a lot lately, so here's a little blend since they fit together so well.

Right before my interview with BACKWHEN we went B2B for the second time following our first B2B in August 2024. Compared to the last set this one varies out of Phonk at times with Future Bass, Dub and various other genres getting played, reflecting how well Backwhen's music and selections sit across a spectrum of genres.

PS: Excuse the sudden cuts, the mix recording had issues at times including the mic not recording and the camera cutting out after 30 mins so it had to get adapted a little bit.

Comment for Track IDs but hopefully we can get a proper tracklist sorted soon. Thanks for all of the support you've given us this year, it's been immense. Consider this a last gift for the year since it's marks the only Stay Cool mix of 2025 before we return with regular DJ sets next year.

It’s been 553 days since my last R&B mix (!), and 5 and a half years since I stopped consistently uploading but we’re finally here. Stay Cool 084 is a return to the R&B roots I’ve always loved and represents a catharsis of sorts - so much has changed in that time, going from working at Ace Hotel to living in a pandemic, to working at Twitch and eventually TikTok to now attempting to do content full time.

The future is strange and vague but the lessons I’ve learned in that period drive me ever forward to see 2026 as a year of deep intention. This, the first, is the first mix I practiced since my Soulection show, and is full of many modern favourites of mine, closing with a D’Angelo favourite to pay respects.

If you’re reading this, whether you’ve been into my stuff since the old or you’re fresh to my mixes thank you for tuning in and look out for more from me soon.

R.I.P. D’Angelo.

For the inaugural mix in our series, the subject of our first documentary himself YAYAYI has blessed us with his first guestmix since 2015’s Please don't copy us. Please copy us. for German beat label Radio Juicy. Across 54 minutes he dives into West Coast Hip-Hop, Beats, Funk, Trap, Techno and more, remixing slowed acapellas - blending Drakeo the Ruler’s “It’s Sum Shit On Me” with Aphex Twin’s emotional 1995 classic “Alberto Balsam”. Mixo feels like a journey through just a handful of YAYAYI’s inspirations overs the years, with various sounds that feel like they could’ve been influences in his earlier boom-bap days all the way up to the glitchy trap styles he’s become more known for in the modern era. Look out for exclusive gems including remixes of Ian’s hit “Magic Johnson”, Joeyy’s “Thanks” and Future’s 2014 classic “Finessin”. Thanks for listening.

Taken from YAYAYI's exclusive MP3.WAV guestmix. Listen here: https://youtu.be/1G5-9dmWS4U

For the first in our mix series YAYAYI comes through with a cold remix blending Joeyy's 2024 hit "Thanks" with a slick West Coast beat that you may also recognise.

Consistently my most listened to if not top-5 artist in my yearly Spotify Wrapped, Wun Two’s music has long been a favourite of mine. As one of the modern OGs to transition from the blog to the full on streaming era and still see success it’s been amazing to watch him grow from strength to strength and it’s only right I did a mix in tribute. Featuring 88 of my all time faves from the German producer across his discography with two extras that had to fit in, this the first of many volumes to come.

For my first ever Phonk mix you know we had to do it big, so I brought in the Purple Posse OG BACKWHEN for a special B2B and the first ever Stay Cool Visual Set with transitions and selections represented in the video too . Ever since the Chill Children tape I’ve been a fan of BACKWHEN’s music, but after one of my community told me to check out his other music even further during the Stay Cool Twitch streams in the pandemic he’s been one of my most listened to and favourite artists so it’s a special moment.

This mix has it all - exclusives from us both, remixes, an interview and even a freestyle from me, so tune in to learn more about BACKWHEN’s early days, his journey from sample-focused Phonk to his newer styles and a whole lot more with some of our favourite Phonk joints accompanying.
