Everyone needs a break from their routines and daily stress. But for many people, a big summer vacation away isn’t affordable or even desirable.
The idea of a “staycation” became popular during the Great Recession of 2008. It returned during the COVID pandemic as people reluctant or unable to travel rediscovered their neighborhoods and nearby tourist attractions. As we head into summer, inflation and lingering COVID concerns are making nearby vacations appealing again.
MPR News host Angela Davis talks with two travel writers about finding Minnesota’s hidden vacation spots and low-cost ways to find rest and renewal close to home.
