Our brother Gene Champagne fell ill from severe pneumonia and the Covid virus recently. Gene at the time was on a ventilator that is helping him breathe so his body has a chance to fight this. We have since learned since we recorded the interview that he has been showing signs of recovery. They have now taken him off the ventilator after a week and back on a oxygen mask. He has a long road to recovery like so many others that have been afflicted.

Late at night on Friday April 2 I had a 2 hour zoom chat with the member’s of Junior Achiever. I thought it would be good to get the back story of the band that Gene and Dave started with the help of Jeremy and Steven. I never thought the band got the credit it deserved. The chat revealed to me the deep bonded friendship that was forged with them. The laughing and the joking with them is still there after so many years apart. They helped one another grow to be better as musicians and people. You will also hear the tracks from All the little let downs LP  throughout the story telling and laughs.

HAMILTON ARTS COUNCIL ARE SEEKING MUSICIANS FOR ‘BIPOC hART MUSIC SERIES’

Hamilton Arts Council (HAC) is excited to announce the call and presentation for the BIPOC hART Music Series. This music series will feature during Hamilton Arts Week (June 3-12) as a platform for emerging BIPOC musicians. Hamilton Arts Week is generously supported by the City of Hamilton.

During this time of increased precarity for artists as a direct result of COVID-19, HAC is seeking to connect with artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, or as an artist of Colour; to assist with the creation and presentation of their work, and support the development of their music career.

HAC is inviting applications from emerging artists to present their artistic voice. Applications will be accepted via HAC’s website until April 11, 2021 (11:59PM), to request application support please contact HAC before April 9, 2021.

Supported by the Ontario Arts Council, the BIPOC hART MUSIC SERIES will feature 4 signature presentations with the goal of supporting the featured artists in audience development and networking. The series will emphasize the importance of prioritizing diversity in Hamilton’s artistic representation to nurture a healthy and inclusive community.

HAC is also very pleased to work with DeShaun Jones as the music series host and curator. DeShaun will bring his 16 years of experience in music marketing, booking management, curation, event production and consulting to support the trajectory of the featured artists.

“Helping in the development of emerging Canadian music has always been my passion. I am extremely excited for the opportunity to curate & host the 2021 BIPOC hART Music Series with Hamilton Arts Council.”

DeShaun has most recently been working with the TD Niagara Jazz Festival and Hamilton Winterfest.
