What if you took the skills of design thinking and problem solving and applied them to books for kids?
Vicky Fang is a children’s book author with a background as a product designer (she worked at Google & Intel). She helped create things like cars that talk to each other, robots you can build at home, and games you can play with your voice. She started writing to support the growing need for early coding education, particularly for girls and kids of color. Her debut books, LAYLA & THE BOTS (Scholastic early chapter book series) and INVENT-A-PET (Sterling picture book), are launched in Spring 2020 and feature courageous and innovative girls in STEAM.

Dr. Shelly Gruenig turned her role as a parent into so much more. She helped create a local robotics club in New Mexico that became a two-time regional championship winner for BEST Robotics Competition.  Dr. Shelly Gruenig has received several awards for her ability to inspire her students and peers & she has (along with the help of the kids she works with) created Be Greater Than Average, where students learn about the Innovation and Evaluation of the Engineering Design Process, and develop an understanding of the science behind their robot. She also co-hosts STEM Southwest Podcast with her husband.
