The Piano Guys Steven Sharp Nelson opens up and shares challenges he’s had as a touring musician and how his LDS beliefs have sustained him on this episode of All Heart with Paul Cardall. As a founding member of The Piano Guys, Steven tours the world performing to sold out audiences and reveals the pressure associated with showing up. The Piano Guys are an award winning 21st century multimedia collective that includes videographer Paul Anderson, studio engineer and writer Al van der Beek, and musical duo pianist Jon Schmidt and Steven on the cello.
Originating in Utah, Steven's group The Piano Guys became an overnight phenomenon on youtube, when in 2011 they began posting piano and cello compositions combining classical, pop, film score, and original music showcased through elaborate or cinematic videos. They have more than 2 billion views on their youtube channel with 7 million subscribers.
Before the group’s international success, the Billboard-charting cellist began his career orchestrating and arranging strings for multi-no 1 Billboard albums for Paul Cardall, the host of this podcast. Under Stone Angel Music, Paul’s independent record label, Steve talks about releasing his first cello album and how Paul encouraged him to make an album. (The Stone Angel Music catalogue was acquired by Anthem Entertainment Group, based in Toronto and continues to manufacture, distribute, and sell Steven’s first two albums Sacred Cello and Tender Mercies). Steven’s arrangement of Paul’s song Redeemer is one of the most streamed contemporary classical piano pieces in Pandora Radio history.
Steven’s Mormon roots are deep as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He shares with Paul how his faith and music has helped guide him as we learn about the heart of one of today’s most successful and recognized cellists in the world, Steven Sharp Nelson.
Since music has such an impact on how we feel, Paul asks Steven to recommend several songs that have helped him find peace and healing.
