Money comes up frequently for Jesus’ teaching. The last word on money in Luke, though, goes to a widow with almost none. Why? In Luke 20:24-21:4, Jesus paints contrasting pictures of giving and greed that illuminates three aspects of generosity. First, generosity is an act of trust, forcing the giver to be dependent on God. Second, generosity is an act of communal healing, a consummation of God’s jubilee proclamation. Third, generosity is an act of worship, taking that which we value most and dedicating it to God. Ben Gibson continues our Stewardship series.
