In the 1990's this small American city took the Canadian Senior Hockey scene by storm. They are the only team ever to win the Allan Cup, Canada's top prize for senior hockey, three times in a row. As their success grew, so did the disdain for these Americans playing Canada's game.

In May of 1996, the town of Melfort Saskatchewan hosted the Royal Bank Cup, Canada’s top prize in Jr. A hockey. The host Mustangs were a machine built over 2 years to hoist the championship on home ice. They were skilled, fast, tough, and intimidating. After rolling through the season, playoffs, and the preliminary round of the tournament, it seemed inevitable they would be champions.
