Jason Bartolozzi is a contestant on the Discovery Channel's show "Moonshiners: Master Distiller." He is from Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, and currently lives north of Pittsburgh. Bartolozzi, who is a stay-at-home dad and tattoo artist, was inspired to start making moonshine after watching the show when it first premiered. He applied to be a contestant after seeing a casting call, and two years later, he was contacted by a casting producer.
During his time on the show, Bartolozzi created an orange creamsicle-flavored moonshine. He stated that the flavor was inspired by the orange cinnamon rolls his late mother used to make at Christmas. He also expressed that he's not a big drinker but was inspired to create his own moonshine because he had not tasted good moonshine before. He has a distinctive look, which includes a mohawk and a beard. Bartolozzi traveled to North Carolina for several weeks in June 2024 to film his episode. The winner of the competition receives bragging rights and a limited run of their winning spirits at Two Trees Distilling Company.

Matt Cunningham is a fourth-generation farmer in Marysville, Ohio, and the founder of Rustic Brew Farms. The family farm, which was started by his great-grandfather, has traditionally grown corn, soybeans, and wheat. In 2014, Cunningham and his wife, Michelle, diversified the farm's crops to include barley and hops in order to adapt to a challenging agricultural economy.
Cunningham built an on-farm malthouse to process the barley he grows and also dries and pelletizes hops. Rustic Brew Farms supplies these ingredients to numerous Ohio craft breweries, including North High Brewing and Grove City Brewing Co. The farm's products, which are 100% Ohio-grown and processed, are known for giving local brewers a tangible connection to the state's agriculture industry.
In addition to brewing ingredients, Rustic Brew Farms produces a line of stone-ground flours, including sprouted corn, wheat, and rye flour. Cunningham has also launched Rustic Farm Distillery, which produces spirits like wheat vodka using grains grown entirely on the farm. He plans to release whiskey and bourbon in the future
Stephen Beam is a seventh-generation distiller and the founder of Limestone Branch Distillery in Lebanon, Kentucky. He comes from a long line of distillers on both sides of his family, with his great-great-grandfather being the bourbon pioneer Joseph Washington Dant and his great-grandfather being Minor Case Beam, the eldest son of James Beam.
Stephen's interest in distilling began at a young age, as he grew up surrounded by distillery memorabilia and family stories. He had an early dream of opening a distillery, but the time wasn't right in the 1980s. He initially pursued a career in horticulture and was a landscape architect, but the idea of distilling never left him.
In 2010, along with his brother Paul, he decided to carry on the family tradition and started Limestone Branch Distillery. Their goal was to resurrect their family's distilling heritage and bring back well-known family brands like Yellowstone Bourbon, which had a history with both the Beam and Dant families. To generate cash flow while their bourbon aged, they initially produced products like "moonshine."
Stephen is known for his hands-on approach and commitment to tradition. He uses heirloom white corn and ferments and distills "on the grain," a method passed down through his family. He has also developed new products like a rye whiskey named "Minor Case" in honor of his great-grandfather and an American Single Malt. The distillery itself is designed to be inviting, bright, and airy, allowing visitors to see every step of the process.
the 2o25 wash out of the hillbilly jam the invasion of the feds and the ballad of uncle joey
Uncle Joey, a man whose laugh could shake the leaves off trees and whose stories were as long and winding as a country road, heard whispers of the annual Moonshine Jamboree. Now, Joey wasn't one to shy away from a good time, especially when it involved live music, good company, and a taste of the local "lightning."
He arrived at the festival grounds, a sprawling field buzzing with excitement. Tents lined the perimeter, each offering a different flavor of homemade brew. The air hummed with bluegrass music and the aroma of barbeque. Uncle Joey, with a glint in his eye, wasted no time.
He started with a small sample, then another, and another. Each sip seemed to untie a knot in his already relaxed demeanor. His stories grew louder, his laughter more boisterous. He danced with strangers, clapped along to the banjo, and even attempted a jig that ended with him nearly toppling over.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in fiery hues, Uncle Joey was in his element. He was singing off-key with a band he'd just met, telling tall tales to a captive audience, and occasionally mistaking a tent pole for a dance partner. The moonshine had certainly done its work, leaving him in a blissful, hazy state where every moment was a celebration.
He wasn't sure when or how he got back home that night, but the next morning, as the roosters crowed and the sun streamed through his window, Uncle Joey woke up with a smile on his face, a slight ringing in his ears, and the faint, sweet memory of a moonlit festival where he'd been high on life and a little bit drunk on moonshine. He knew one thing for sure: he’d be back next year.
