Food brings us together so much more than we know. In this episode, I spoke to pastry chef Florence Elisabeth about her shared meriendas, Slow Talks, and how she uses it to connect people but to also inspire change and impact.
Born in Martinique, grew up in France, and now living in Madrid, Florence traded her career in finance to create her own venture in pastry. Doing good in the world doesn't mean you have to quit your job, sell all your possessions, and be a monk. There are simple and easy ways we can give back to our own communities every day. In this episode, I talk to Tara Brown about her experience doing charity work and how she uses her catering business as a vehicle to achieve her own dreams and help others at the same time. Food and media have a complicated relationship. Some may argue that it's a toxic relationship. In this episode, I talk to food anthropologist Arlette Martinez about how social media and food publications influence where and what we eat.
After a decade of working in high-end kitchens, Arlette Martinez hung up her chef's hat to study and research food culture and trends. She holds a BA from Concordia University and an MA from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB). Arlette's current work studies social media’s impact on food tourism and the production of cultural discourses surrounding food and travel. Arlette is also a member of the Canadian Association for the Study of Food.

Violette van Gaver is the founder of Je Parle Cuisine, a project that aims to offer multi-sensorial experiences around the French food culture and language.
