Starla shares a "One Bowl Boat Dip"

Ingredients

1 16 ounce sour cream

1 block cream cheese

1 10 ounce Rotel w/green chiles

2 cups shredded colby jack cheese

1 packet ranch seasoning mix

1 packet taco seasoning mix

Directions:

Mix all together and refrigerate. You can also bake this.

Serve with your favorite cracker or chip.

Join Michelle and Starla this week for a conversation about things we guard, how God guards our hearts and minds, and how we can guard our own hearts.

Starla shares a Blueberry Lemon Loaf recipe:

Ingredients:

1 cup sugar

zest of 1 lemon

1/2 cup olive oil

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 TBS lemon juice, squeezed

1/2 c. plain Greek yogurt

2 eggs

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

1 1/2 c. all purpose flour

2 cups blueberries, dusted

2 tsp. sugar for dusting

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350. Grease or line loaf pan.

Whisk all ingredients together besides the blueberries. When mixed well, fold in blueberries with a spatula. Top with remaining blueberries and sprinkle the top with the 2 tsp. of sugar.

Bake at 350 for approx. 70 minutes, maybe less if your oven cooks hot.

Michelle shares a Butterfinger Pie recipe:

Ingredients:

8 ounce cream cheese at room temp.

1/2 creamy peanut butter

2 tsp vanilla

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1 bag butterfingers, 12.5 ounce, crushed

8 ounce cool whip, thawed

1 pie shell (graham cracker or oreo)

Directions:

Mix cream cheese and peanut butter together until smooth. Add vanilla and powdered sugar. Add in butter fingers, reserving some for the top. Fold in cool whip. Pour into pie shell and top with the remaining butterfingers. Place in refrigerator for at least 4 hours. Enjoy!

Michelle and Starla talk with Ann Gainey, author of “The GodChair,” and her new book, “Breathe In, Breathe Out: Stories Infused with Spiritual Oxygen.” 

Ann shares how her new book encourages us to look for God in our everyday stories.

She shares one of her favorite recipes:

Baked Cheese Grits

2 ½ cups milk

¾ cups regular grits (not instant)

1 stick butter

½ tsp salt

1/3 cup parmesan cheese (grated)

5 ounce jar processed cheese Kraft Old English Spread

Bring milk to a boil, being careful of burning milk.  Add grits and cook until thickened (about 10 minutes), stirring often.

Lower heat.

Stir in butter, salt, and cheese.

Spoon into 1 quart casserole dish.

Bake at 325 for 20 minutes.

Michelle and Starla discuss how King Asa in the Old Testament was described as "wholly true all his days." He started off well in his reign, but his reign did not end well. He began as one who trusted God and His word but then began to trust in man and to leave some of the high places which should have been torn down.

Michelle and Starla reflect on things that can be "high places" in our own lives, and how to identify them. Even though Asa didn't get everything perfectly right, he desired to move in the right direction, and so scripture describes him as "wholly true all his days." May the same be said of us, that we were "wholly true," even though we may not get all things "right." May our desire be to live out the "long obedience in the same direction," as Eugene Peterson describes the Christian life.

Starla shares a recipe of

Strawberry Cobbler:

1/2 c. salted butter

4 cups strawberries, hulled and halved

1/2 c. sugar

for the batter:

1 cup self-rising flour

1 c. sugar

1 cup milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

While preheating, place butter in the 9x13 dish. Once melted, remove from oven.

Add strawberries and 1/2 c. sugar and toss to combine.

For batter:

Whisk together all ingredients for batter.

Add strawberries to melted butter - do not stir.

Pour batter evenly over strawberries - do not stir.

Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes or until golden. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Bonnie Shares a "corn salad" recipe:

Take 4-5 ears of corn; boil for 2 minutes. Allow to cool and scrape kernels off into a bowl

Add black olives, small tomatoes, and Vidalia onion

Add garlic

Lime and honey for "dressing"

Put in refrigerator to chill.

Add avocado

Join Michelle and Starla as they continue to talk about prayer, and being persistent in prayer. They talk about the parable in Luke 18 that focuses on that persistence in asking God for our needs.

Also in Luke 18, the blind man, when others tried to keep him from calling out to Jesus, "...cried out all the more." We need to do the same in crying out all the more to him with our needs.

They share how the miracle that we always receive through prayer is the gift of his presence - the fact that He is with us.

Starla shares a side dish

5 ounces of yellow saffron rice, cooked as directed

1 can fiesta corn, drained

1 can cr. of chicken

4 ounces Mexican cheddar cheese

Mix well. Put in 8x8 dish. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
