After a relatively quiet Tuesday, we're seeing some selling pressure in the premarket this Wednesday morning.

We're not expecting much volatility today, as the market anticipates Nvidia's earnings report, which will be released after hours tonight.

However, we might see a significant increase in volatility, particularly in the semiconductor sector, once the earnings are announced.

We remain short-term bullish on the market, as long as the VIX closes below 13.41. This threshold will continue to decline daily.

Although the TSX has pulled back over the past three days, it remains above the upper channel line.

Yesterday, we reached our next profit target on the NASDAQ 100 QQQs.

Depending on the market's reaction to the CPI numbers this morning, we may be able to fill a few more orders today.

We will remain short-term bullish on the market as long as the VIX does not close above 14.32.

Welcome to Wednesday morning's Market Outlook.

It appears to be a relatively quiet start to the day, though we're noticing a bit of weakness creeping into the NASDAQ.

Commodities are showing a mixed picture, with gold trading slightly higher while crude oil continues its downward trajectory.

Yesterday, the market hit a significant milestone, halting abruptly at the S&P 500's 5200 mark.

This establishes 5000 as support and 5200 as resistance levels moving forward.

A breakthrough above 5200 could signal a return to previous highs.

While the stock market has been on an upward trend this week, another notable trend is the continued rise of the Risk Off trade.

In the past month, Utilities and Consumer Staples have been the top-performing US sectors, contrasting with the struggles seen in the Transports sector.

This is something worth keeping in mind as we navigate the market.

Monday Morning Market Outlook - April 29, 2024

Welcome to this Monday's Market Outlook.

The premarket is relatively quiet today, with no significant economic data releases scheduled. Interestingly, despite the calm, major companies such as Apple, Shopify, and Tesla have received positive news.

Last week concluded on an upbeat note, though both the S&P 500 and NASDAQ remained within the trading range of the previous week. Coming into the weekend, there appeared to be a shift in sentiment in the stock market from risk-off to risk-on.

This change was also noticeable in the bond market, where there was a renewed interest in emerging-market and high-yield (junk) bonds.

Currently, our short-term outlook on the market remains bullish, yet our long-term view is bearish, given that the VIX continues on a weekly buy signal.

Market Update - Thursday Morning Insights

Good morning everyone,

Welcome to this Thursday morning update.

We are seeing a notable downturn in stock index futures today, led primarily by a sharp decline in Meta. After a relatively calm Wednesday for the US markets, today presents a different picture.

Meanwhile, significant downturns have also occurred in the Canadian market, notably among major entities such as the railroads, Royal Bank, and Rogers, all of which have moved markedly lower.

In my analysis, the rally we've observed this week seems largely driven by short covering and a pivot towards more defensive stocks, moving away from high-flying tech stocks to options like Coca-Cola, which outperformed on the Dow yesterday—a rare occurrence.

Currently, Dow futures are down by over 200 points. While the opening market movements are noteworthy, our primary interest remains on how the market closes, which is always more telling.

It will be crucial to monitor if the selling pressure intensifies post-9:30 AM.
