  • Episode 3: Exercise For Your Mental Health
*Note: This podcast was first recorded as a video.

Most everyone associates exercise with the body. Muscles flex, lungs heave, hearts pump, and the sweat appears. Exercise is for building a healthy body. Check!

What about the brain and our mental health? Not such an obvious association.

I believe exercise for our mental health should be our primary focus. The goals we have for the body won’t be neglected with this change in focus. It’s the context in which we train, after all. We don’t get brain health by doing crosswords and sudoku. We must move, lift, jump, stretch, bend, run, and all of it.

    Today's Show:

I’m joined by Candice McKnight. Candice, a fitness trainer, used exercise to deal with her social anxiety and depression. Now she specializes in helping clients who are dealing with the same challenges.

    In This Episode:

Candice’s experiences dealing with her mental health challenges. How exercise played a role in her recovery.Knowing we can act regardless of how we feel.Baby steps, repetition, and post it notes make a difference. The problem with an “all or nothing” mentality.Progress over perfection. Why learning to fail and make mistakes is so important. How I went a little overboard and stopped going to the movies because of my eating schedule.Journaling to pay attention to your progress. And plenty more. This is a good one.
