EP 001 Kelly Clark
On today’s episode, Steve Larosiliere interviews Kelly Clark. Kelly is a multi-awarded snowboarder who has competed in the Olympics. She just returned from a serious surgery, and is restarting her snowboarding season. Listen to her story and be inspired!
“A lot of people would say, ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.’ But what I really found was ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you humble.’” -Kelly Clark
Beyond Limits
This year marks Kelly’s 18th consecutive win at the X Game. Last two years, however, she suffered one of her first ever injuries in snowboarding.
She had some ranged limitations, and just tried to make it through her season last year. At the end, she tore part of her hamstring off her bone. She underwent a serious hip surgery as a consequence.
A Humbling Experience
Kelly has been known to be an unstoppable snowboarder. Her injury challenged and humbled her. Before then, she had no idea how her daily routine depended on her healthy and active lifestyle.
She learned to be thankful even with the little successes. She appreciates the people who stayed with her throughout the healing process. The injury also led Kelly to redefine success.
Truth from a Better Viewpoint
Kelly has had tough times. She particularly struggled with depression and anxiety more than she did in life. The experience taught her to allow people in her process and feelings.
As she puts it, there are people who know better than you feel. Feelings don’t necessarily express truth and reality. Sometimes you need people to tell you what’s true.
