    Stone County Extension is back with another episode. The Stone County Fair was a success last week, however Anna had a breakdown and Tyler has been loosing it.  By it, I mean a tick that someone brought in to be sent off and the breakdown was automotive, not emotional. 

    Updates on upcoming Extension programs. 

    This week Anna and Tyler discuss household food waste,and it's more than you think. Anna gives some thoughts on being more intentional about being less wasteful.   Tyler discusses gardening, pasture, hayfield management practices to think about trying to accomplish this fall.

    It's the 30th episode and Stone County Extension is back at it bringing you researched based information and talking whats going on in Stone County Arkansas.  This week updates about the Stone County Fair.  

    The County Fair is a stressful time for County Extension Offices all across the State and Stone County is no different.  Anna talks about bringing entries to the fair and what judges are looking for so you can make sure you're bringing items to win that prized Purple Ribbon.  Tyler gets somewhat triggered about complaints & past experiences.

    Also drought could be a very real concern soon and Tyler gives some management practices that producers could implement to get them through a  drought.

  • Ep 29 - Exploring Leadership, Fall Forages, & Safe School Lunches

    On this weeks episode, Stone County Extension focus a little bit  on leadership and leadership skills.The reason, Anna is starting iLEAD (University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture's Internal Leadership Development Program) and Tyler is graduating from it the same week.  Tyler discusses what he learned through iLEAD.

    Anna promotes Stone County 4-H Youth Leadership which is starting back.  This is for youth in Stone County around the age of 13-14 (8th & 9th grade) to participate which involves monthly leadership educational programs.  

    Anna also discusses how to pack safe (think food illness) school lunches and some of the research.

    Tyler gets into fall forages: extending grazing, what to plant, planning ahead.

    Safety is the theme of this episode, one way or another. Stone County Extension is back at it.  Updates on where we've been and the adventures we've gotten upto and summers almost over as far as summer break is concerned.  Anna gives some new school year safety and watching for buses.  Also she talks some canning safety.   Tyler talks about johnsongrass and is it a friend or foe and how to deal with it.  Also armyworms are spreading throughout Arkansas farmers need to be ready.

    America is celebrating it's 250th this weekand Stone County Extension is still here providing neutral researched based information for all of our clientelle.  

    We are glad to live in a country that over 100 years ago saw the need for land grant universities to be established, then for those universities to conduct agicultural research and the need for this research to get out to the public. This led to the creation of Cooperative Extension through the Smith-Lever Act of 1914.  

    This episode Tyler is supporting a new look which Anna is unsupportive of. Anna talks about practices to get laundry clean. She gives some tips on getting out stains, water temperature, load management. Tyler continues on hay production and talks storage covered vs. uncovered.  They tell some stories about memorable July 4th stories towards the end.

    This episode is an introduction to mediterranean cooking and better hay production.   Anna has been away training to teach Mediterranean Cooking and talks about what she learned.  Tyler talks about hay production and what factors effect hay quality.  Also testing your hay to help you make decisions on feeding to livestock.

    Anna is out out of town this week, so Tyler reached out to a couple local farmers, Dustin & Tanner Caston.  They operate the fruit and vegetable operation on Caston Farms growing  blueberries, blackberries, elderberries, apples, vegetables & formerly peaches.  Also dabbling in raising dairy cows to produce raw milk.   They discuss how they got into agriculture and a little bit how they run their operation.
