Based on a story that the legendary Johnny Shines told me back in the early 1990's. We were talking about ghosts and odd things that he'd heard about or seen. This tale is based on a hitchhiker on a dark highway one rainy night and a blueswoman driving home from her gig...
Has a loved one ever reached out to you from beyond the veil? Have you ever had a phone call from the dead? This is a story about a widow who's husband looked out for her from beyond the grave.

A little story set along a highway near a roadhouse and an ivy covered cottage during the 1920's with some romance, a little drama and new found love...
Blueswoman Alabama Annie/aka GS Crowder has been writing short stories and songs, performing her original tunes and traditional delta blues on guitar and piano around the country. She has worked with several blues legends including Pinetop Perkins, Johnny Shines, Jerry Boogie McCain and John Brim just to name a few, did a five year stretch with two house gigs on historic Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee and also hosted a show on NPR during the 1990's called Preachin' the Blues.
Born and raised in the south, living in her childhood home lovingly known as the Old Home Place, she found the blues and traditional music early on and also developed a love for collecting and telling stories as well.
Her son, Chas has made Boulder Creek, California his home, booking artists for live performance and playing his own music, and when she is there, as she often is, she regularly performs on piano with his band, Shotgun Suitor.
