A demon demanding blood. A mascot smiling for tourists. The lake remembers the difference.

For thousands of years, the Syilx people of the Okanagan Valley spoke of Nha-a-itk — a water creature so feared that no traveler crossed the lake without first making an offering. Then the settlers came, and turned the demon into Ogopogo: a cute, plush, postcard-friendly mascot. But the Syilx never forgot what the lake actually holds. The offerings stopped. The sightings didn't. And the water keeps its own ledger.

Oak Island, Nova Scotia. The most photographed hotel in the world has secrets. Built in 1893 on the cliffs of Quebec City, the Château Frontenac has hosted kings, planned wars, and collected ghosts for over 130 years.
