In 1961, in preparation for the first SETI conference, famed astronomer Dr. Frank Drake formulated an equation for calculating the number of extraterrestrial civilizations in the Milky Way.
The Drake Equation, as it has come to be known, is foundational to SETI research and remains highly influential to this day.

Why go fast when you can go big? That's the basic idea of Generation Ships (Worldships, Interstellar Arks, Arkships, etc.), spacecraft large enough to support multiple generations.
The ships typically consist of rotating sections to simulate gravity and natural environments to accommodate crews for hundreds or even thousands of years in interstellar space.

In Part II of this segment, we examine the years when Einstein fled Nazi Germany, played a vital role in the launch of the Manhattan Project, and attempted to resolve more cosmic mysteries.
His legacy lives on to this day. His discoveries remain part of the foundation on which modern science is built. And the mysteries that eluded him continue to baffle physicists today.

In the history of science, few figures have had the impact, influence, and enduring legacy of Albert Einstein.
From Relativity and Black Holes to the Cosmological Constant and Quantum theory, Einstein forever changed our understanding of the Universe and the laws that govern it.

Could the reason for the "Great Silence" be that no extraterrestrial civilizations want to communicate? Perhaps they're afraid of giving their position away and would rather play it safe.
This is the basis of the Dark Forest Hypothesis, which comes from the book of the same name by famed SF author Liu Cixin.

The study of the Universe (cosmology) has changed considerably over time. With every new discovery, our conception of the cosmos has undergone a seismic shift.
If science is like an onion, constantly shedding its skin, then the cosmos is like an onion that grows by orders of magnitude every time it sheds!

The economic and scientific benefits would be immense, but so would the sociopolitical and cultural experiments it could allow for

Could the reason we haven't heard from an extraterrestrial civilization is that there's a limit to how long a civilization can broadcast? This is the logic behind the Brief Window Hypothesis.
If civilizations have a finite lifespan (L), then there's a finite window of opportunity to hear from them. Miss it, and the opportunity is lost forever.
