I have worked in many different professions such as the Music Industry, Taxes and Technical Recruiting. I have always enjoyed puzzle games and finding different ways to solve them and diving into code the first time I found a lot of the challenge and reward in coding as I received solving a complex puzzle. I could not be more excited to be combining the problem solving and technical aspects of prior career experience as well as activities I do for fun and pursuing what has become a passion in software development.

I began to transition from life sciences into software development in 2018 after my job working in vector control and arboviruses increasingly called for greater use of technology and the need for someone who could work with several new softwares. I had a limited background in technology and yet I found myself gravitating towards learning these new skills out of personal interest. At the time, I considered developing these skills as a hobby, but after learning about Nashville Software school I knew I had a means to completely change careers. I still maintain a lot of passion for biological sciences, and I hope to one day work in the intersection of technology and science.

Austin Cumberlander graduated with Part-time Web Development Cohort Evening 8.

I started learning how to code in my free time by using resources like freecodecamp.com, codeacademy.com, and teamtreehouse.com. When I started working with my team stats specialist at my current job, I began to learn about SQL and how it’s used to query data in databases to generate reports. I then began to learn the fundamentals of Python, which grew my interest even more and solidified my desire to transition into software development. It scratches my creative itch, yet challenges me to think deeply about problems in a logical way.

Anne Rae Vick graduated with Full-time Web Development Cohort 31.

Self-actualized coder and problem solver with a life long love of learning. Started working in theatre as a teenager. Developed coding skills developing games as a hobby. Worked freelance for several years, and eventually looked towards professional development for new challenges.

Ripal Patel graduated with Part-time Web Development Cohort Evening 8.

A few years after managing an assisted living facility, I decided to make a career shift. My professional career to this point always found roadblocks in the technology we were using. I was ready to make a shift, learn more about information technology, and be able to handle the hurdles that many companies encounter every day. I enrolled at NSS and acquired professional training. Upon completion, I feel confident that my technical skills now match my excellent interpersonal and team building skills.

In 2017 and after some serious soul searching, I decided to leave law enforcement for something that would foster my natural curiosity, expand my horizons and quench my thirst for a more fulfilling career. The full-stack web developer course at Nashville Software School gave me the opportunity to study and learn from some of the most amazing people that I've ever had the privilege of knowing.

I consider myself to be a combination of artistic and technological. I enjoy creating, designing and developing web apps and UI. After several years working in graphic design, I decided to expand my experience in field of web application. I believe there is plenty of room to further develop my skills and learn new materials as a Front-End / UX-UI developer.

Jonathan Schaffer graduated with Full-time Web Development Cohort 31.

I have worked in a warehouse - to retail stores and most recently, in the Auto Industry. The Auto Industry has been a very fun and exciting adventure. After talking to some family friends, I decided to pursue my other love and decided to pursue Software Development. What I have learned in the past couple of months is how much I truly enjoy coding- the challenge to solve a problem and work as a team to get things done. I am excited to see where this journey takes me.

I spent 16 years working in mental health, helping others solve their problems. What I love most about being a software developer is that I have the ability to solve any problem. I still have the satisfaction of breaking something apart and trying to understand what the issue is. Now, I also get to solve that problem. Software development has allowed me to expand upon a part of my previous career that I enjoyed most while also providing the ability to directly solve a problem.
