I’m a software engineer that recently transitioned from a career in writing and marketing. I first tried my hand at coding back in the myspace days when I wanted to customize my profile. However, it wasn’t until a family member suggested I consider it as a career that I really dug in deep and realized that I loved it. I aspire to take my creative thinking and passion for development and build a fulfilling career in this exciting field.

While in college as an Industrial & Systems Engineering student, I realized that some of my most enjoyable classes were those which required a certain degree of interaction with a computer. I'd always been interested in new technology growing up, spending hours on the old PC in the family living room until someone had to drag me away. This became even more obvious as I launched into a career as an Operations Industrial Engineer for the Postal Service. I found that I was frequently prone to looking for technical solutions to 'ordinary problems' in data and software. In the end, it was only natural that I found my way to Nashville Software School, where, in familiar company, I can hone my software skills to live out the dream of improving the world one line of code at a time.

I am a software developer with Object Oriented Programming experience using JavaScript, React, Python, and Django Prior to beginning my journey into software development I worked as an automotive technician, with a focus on electrical diagnoses. The logical trouble shooting has always appealed to me, and after being introduced to software engineering I recognized all of my favorite parts of my current career and none of my least favorite. The software development world has re-ignited a passion for learning that has been the most fun I've had learning new things in almost ten years, which I hope to continue into a fulfilling career in software development.

I’m starting my journey as full-stack developer thanks to Nashville Software School. Being a full-stack developer allows me to not only develop client-facing apps and websites but also develop it with cutting edge backend support. I love designing systems that are light and efficient. I'm really in love with REACT, but am eager to learn so much more. I'm an avid table top role player and have written and illustrated several books.

I am software engineer looking to apply my skills and talents as a full stack developer on an engineering team where I may contribute to projects and refine myself as a software engineer along the way! I have created frontend projects in JavaScript using React and Next JS by myself and as a member of a team of follow developers. I have also created full stack projects using the same frontend tech stack along with Python and Django for the backend also on my own and on a team. I have truly enjoyed my journey becoming a software engineer! I am ready to bring what I've got to the table and be a part of something great!

Shalane Proctor graduated with full time Web Development Evening Cohort 19.

There is a reason the other paths I tried in life didn't work out, it's because I would find my here in engineering. Very proud of how far I've come, especially in less that a year I've dedicated myself to becoming a software engineer. Aside from my new career, I am an artist and gamer, which I find to be largely helpful in my development. I am a proud women in tech and I look forward to the future!
