I’m about to do something brave/stupid.

Perfectionism is self-defeating. Not just because because it's impossible, but because it is actually the block on the overall goal ... the block to getting better. Our work is not to produce perfection, but to continually improve the process of making stuff. Of course, there are one-shot opportunities (e.g. marriage proposals), but there is still an upside to measure against... and in reality few things are really just one-shot.
