  • The Dog Days of Summer: Sports of Summer

This week Larry and Christian dive into the dog days of summer, talking baseball - major and minor league - BSU summer football, the sports market in Boise, and many other sports and sports adjacent happenings in summer with longstanding Idaho sports radio host on KTIK, and sports columnist with the Idaho Press, Mike Prater. A spirited and thoughtful conversation!

Then our special guest correspondent, writer, friend, and storyteller of the highest caliber, Carrie Seymour, brings us her remarkable essay on her thorough and unremitting love of baseball. Beautiful stuff! Enjoy and stay cool out there.

Be safe, smart, and well, and remember to keep moving the story forward, y'all!

  • The Summer Movie - Explored and Explained

This week Larry and Christian sit down with Will Leitch, journalist, novelist, founding editor of Deadspin, father, blogger, and, among many other things, cohost of the wildly popular movie-centric podcast, Grierson and Leitch. We talk about the entity known as The Summer Movie, dig deep into what that moniker actually means, how it's carried out, who goes and sees summer blockbusters and who defers to the art house gems in the heat of the season. We examine a few tropes, favorites, bombs, and the simple joy of going to an air conditioned movie theater on a hot summer day or night.

Our amazing Correspondents this week are writers and storytellers Allison Maier and David McNeil, two movie aficionados and friends who talk growing up watching summer movies in Saudi Arabia, the necessity of bringing The Bourne Identity to a party and making everyone watch while you narrate, and the joy of browsing the aisles of any given Blockbuster (RIP). And more!

Be safe, smart, and well, and remember, keep moving the story forward, y'all!

  • Independence Day - Remembering the Mayhem, and Counting Flags

This week Larry and Christian get into a particularly memorable July 4th weekend that took place on San Juan Island in 1989. A dozen friends, all dudes. Far too much beer. Plenty of laughter, injuries, fuzzy antics, and stories that have lived on as pieces of the puzzle that was our lives back in our early twenties. We get into how we all remember and tell the story of that weekend from a unique vantage, and how memory has and continues to shape that years-gone narrative as time has marched on.

We managed to wrangle one old friend from that lost weekend to come on as our guest. Eirik Olsen joins us to tell and talk about how he adds up that Independence Day weekend in 1989.

Then, the amazing Kevin Smokler delivers our correspondent piece all about his family's tradition of counting flags every July 4th.
