He recently directed, Constellations, Orson's Shadow, and Antony and Cleopatra, Comedy of Errors, Love's Labour's Lost, Chimes at Midnight, Twelfth Night, King Lear, As You Like It and the regional premiere of Gloria. In his 30 years as an actor favorite roles include: Mr.Paravicini in The Mousetrap, Alf in Peter and the Starcatcher, Edgar in King Lear, Horatio in Hamlet, Orgon in Tartuffe, Benjamin Franklin in 1776, and Theo Maske in The Underpants.

Dave and his rescue cat, Dammit

Okay, I have to explain Dave's Cat's Name. Dave found an abandoned kitten. He tried out several names on her, but she didn't respond to any of them. Then one day, Dave was looking for something, and said, "Dammit" because he couldn't find what he was looking for. The kitten meowed. "What?" Dave said to himself. So he said "dammit" again, and she meowed again. "You want that for your name?" He asked her, and he said "dammit" again and again, she meowed. Dave gave in to her wishes and that's now her official name.

  • Finding Your Niche

Gemma Mikaela Germán was born, raised, and still lives in a small border town called Douglas, AZ. She earned her BA in Secondary Education and her MA in Reading and Curriculum from Grand Canyon University.

Gemma is currently a 7th grade reading teacher where she is guaranteed laughter at least twice a day. It is her dream job. What other occupation can you have a teenager describe the scent of your classroom as, "It smells like a butterfly in here"? She received the honor of being Cochise County Teacher of the Year in 2017.

One of Gemma's hobbies is teaching Folklorico to her middle school students. She loves teaching her Mexican culture to both students and the audiences that they perform to. Gemma's culture is also brought forth in her writing. She loves to weave her Mexican roots into the stories she writes.

  • Every Life is A Library

Our mission is to collect the untold stories of Douglas through collaborative community conversations, preserving the voices, memories, and lessons of our elders through oral and video recordings and making our discoveries available to the public. We volunteer our time and share a passion for local history and a commitment to story-telling. Ceci Durazo Lewis and Ginny Jordan were born and raised in Douglas, their grandparents were founding pioneers. I arrived in nearby Bisbee in 1983 and am honored to be included. Ceci completed her PhD in Mexican-American Studies in 2016 at the University of Arizona with a traveling museum exhibit and dissertation that focuses on the agency of women of Mexican heritage in Douglas during the first half of the 20th century. Her work has become the model for our current collaborative conversation data collecting. I received a PhD in History from the same university in 2015 and am the author of Agrarian Revolt in the Sierra of Chihuahua (University of Arizona Press, 2019). Ginny is a lifelong community member and has a deep understanding, love, and commitment to the people and the town of Douglas. We primarily serve the community of Douglas and its diaspora; we also serve the larger audience for local history interpreted and placed into a broader context.

  • Music Soothes the Soul

Cindy Midgorden is a retired elementary school music teacher. After 35 years of teaching she has heard, and told, many stories! Some of her favorite lessons included using classroom instruments to bring storybooks to life. Life during retirement includes teaching piano lessons to young students as well as being a part of her church's praise band. A graduate of the University of Kansas, she is an avid basketball fan. As a breast cancer survivor, she is learning the sport of Dragonboat Racing and loves to share stories about her escapades with her Dragon sisters.

Cindy lives in Independence, Missouri, with Mark, her husband of 38 years. They have two grown children, a wonderful daughter in law, and a beautiful new granddaughter. And, of course, Jerry the cat. Before Covid life was very busy with many community activities but, since Covid, they are spending more time at home with family and watching movies! She is also an avid reader, cross stitcher, and jigsaw puzzler. She is in the process of learning to quilt and loves to hear stories of her grandmothers and how they quilted.

  • The Wonders of Art and Travel

Virginia Thompson spends her days teaching adults to play in the mud as an Art instructor in Ceramics and Sculpture at Cochise College in Sierra Vista, AZ. She has enough hobbies and interests for about 14 people, yet can't seem to eliminate any of them to free up more time. Along with being a professional potter and occasional installation artist, she enjoys hiking in the Huachuca Mountains and rock climbing on the weekends with her husband and friends, plays the piano and the banjo (but not at the same time), and sings more-or-less on-key with a small skiffle band as well as writing songs for them to perform. She is an avid knitter and crocheter who has begun to experiment with pattern design, sews garments (mostly Covid masks these days) and quilts with the skills her mother taught her, enjoys exploring cooking plant-based international cuisine in her instant pot, and speaks quite passable Japanese and Spanish. She has currently completed reading 32 of the 93 Pulitzer Prize novel / fiction- winning books, and is therefore 34% done with her mission to read them all. Her two adorable cats comprise 98% of her instagram feed @vapfau.

About Story-Power

From the publisher's feed

Stories are a powerful way to learn about ourselves and others. They come in all different forms, written, visual, musical, and personal. Lucinda and her guests discuss stories in all these forms.
