The business of music in India has come a long way from the Bollywood dominated days of the previous decades. Indie music is turning more and more viable for musicians. A couple of weeks ago, I talked to Dhruv Singh, from Pagal Haina about building up epic indie acts like Pratik Kuhad and Peter Cat Recording Company - check out that episode if you haven’t. To continue my exploration of the extant indie music scene, today I’m talking to Soumini Sridhara Paul, VP at Hungama and the woman behind the 10-year old digital music platform Artist Aloud. Soumini has spent 20 years repping musicians, creating revenue streams, and launching albums.

TV channels are at an interesting business juncture - with OTT, telecom and social media apps moving into the entertainment industry more and more. How have programming decisions changed over time then? And what is TV doing to fend off the onslaught? In part of 2 of his chat with Vivek Lath of GoQuest Media Ventures, Vineet talks to him about all this and gets insights on Vivek's 3X founder status.
Vivek's recommendations: Besa, a Serbian crime family show, and The Cleaning Lady, an Argentinian show about the woman who cleans up the mafia's murders.

The direct to OTT movie model has been one of those high amplitude disruptions of the world of movies. Once considered a distant dream, it is the here and now of the movie industry. The proof of this: Netflix now has 8 Academy award wins from 44 nominations, and more are on their way. While the Indian movie industry hasn’t seen this level of disruption from the non-theatrical movies yet, the coronavirus has expedited this process a little bit - as Amazon Prime moves quickly to fill in for the theaters. In part 1 of his chat with Vivek Lath, MD of GoQuest Media Ventures, Vineet discusses the implications of this for the consumer and the industry.

Entertainment on the internet is amplifying voices from all corners of society, giving a platform to creators from underrepresented genders, classes, race, and in some cases, caste. Netflix has been one of the leaders in creating the space for diverse creative voices, both on-screen and off it. Going by Comparably, a company that measures Diversity Scores, Netflix has an 83/100 - pointing to a commitment to diversity in both the entertainment they create and their organizational culture. Today, I sit down with Shrishti Behl Arya, Director, International Originals at Netflix and the exec behind Ghost Stories, Chopsticks, Yeh Ballet, Guilty, Maska and more. We talk about bringing more diversity to storytelling in India, how Netflix puts creators first and what it means to be inclusive while developing stories for the screen.
Recommendations: A diverse array of great shows on Netflix. Check out the episode.

Till February this year, the creation of performing arts experiences was considered to be a growing industry in India. From massive productions like Spoken or The Circuit, to more boutique events around classical music, live performing arts were seeing a resurgence. Since then, most artists have taken to social media and live content in some form or another. But not all artists are on Instagram, and some of these curated events are projects of passion, created to serve a community that is invested in their patronage of these arts. Today, joining me to talk about curating in these coronavirus times are Tanvi Bhatia, the founder of the agency, The Prussian Project, and of Ibtida - Ek Mehfil, and Anubhav Jain, Founder and CEO of Creative Marketing Fix (CMF) and curator at Ibtida - Ek Mehfil. Ibtida - Ek Mehfil is a curated kaleidoscope view of music, poetry and art, a curated revival of Baithaks.
