Storytelling with Seth

The freedom to relax and reflect on World Cup action from Saturday through Tuesday.

Writer: Sholly Fisch

Artist: Dario Brizuela

Summary

Someone opened the wrong time capsule and now evil spirits are on their way to destroy the Washington Monument. How can Scooby-Doo and the Gang stop evil spirits? They have to travel back in time with Dr. Fate to work with the Justice Society of America.

Nostalgia meets vintage and old-school for a joyride down a Golden Age memory lane that’ll make Velma say “Jinkies”. If you like classic references and time-honored traditions this is a Scooby Team-Up for your collection.

The Silencer is an assassin on the run and a single mother with a secret. None of that changes in this issue. What does change? That means the Triple Crown Diner is under fire and now Talia and Silencer must work together to stay alive.

I met my friend DJ for breakfast yesterday at the Athletic Club in Oakland. DJ is my old teammate from the pitch.

We sat down to watch Uruguay vs. Russian and talked about soccer and community.

England's 6-1 win was more than a victory for the British and contained more than one victory for Panama.

Japan and Senegal notch a thrilling draw.

Colombia's Falcao achieves a dream by scoring the first for himself, the first of three for his country.

Expectation and Reality share a fabled history. Like two sides of a coin, each has landed on success and failure.

These are a few moments when expectation met reality during:

1. When I overslept or slept in and spent the morning trying to catch up on the game scores and highlights, all while my Frenchie snored in my ear and the microphone.

2. The diverging paths of Ronaldo and Messi.

3. Iran and Serbia have gone from underrated to recognition.

4. Neymar and Brazil found relief and redemption.

World Cup Russia 2018 was in full swing starting at 3 a.m. Pacific Time here in California. From France's 2-1 victory over Australia to Messi's missed penalty kick that resulted in a 1-1 tie with Iceland, the stories of heartache and heroism changed with each pass, shot, and goal. Sometime around the first half of Croatia vs. Nigeria, the impact of Peru's 1-0 loss to Denmark centered around a penalty kick missed by Christian Cueva. Nigeria's Super Eagles fought to overcome an early 1-0 deficit to Croatia.
