Brad discusses the ideas of French Jesuit priest John Daniélou, who argued that the Church is best when it builds and sustains Christendom - a Christian civilization where religion is ingrained in culture to reach the masses. He explores how these concepts explain the rise of what he terms 'Christian Trumpism'—a form of Christianity more about power and public display than individual commitment. Brad also touches on this goes against the grain of what most Protestants, especially evangelicals, are taught about a counterculture church filled with true believers - rather than a lukewarm cultural Christianity of indifferent pew-fillers.

Brad and Dan critique the Trump administration’s decision to fast-track the resettlement of 49 white South African refugees while ending protections for thousands of Afghanis. They analyze the impacts of these policies through the lens of white Christian nationalism and systemic racism.
They further discuss President Trump's acceptance of a $400 million jet from Qatar, drawing attention to issues of corruption and the national security risks involved.
The episode also highlights Oklahoma's new education standards that mandate teaching the 'Big Lie' about the 2020 election and Virginia’s decision not to count African American history courses towards graduation requirements, framing these developments as part of a broader, dangerous, and misleading historical narrative.

Those on the American political and religious right increasingly warn against the dangers of excessive empathy. The problem with America, they assert, stems from empathy run amok. One such voice on the right is that of Allie Beth Stuckey, who warns us of the supposed dangers of “toxic empathy.” But what is empathy? Why is it perceived to be such a threat? What is “toxic” empathy? And why are Christian conservatives so threatened by empathy? In this first episode in a series devoted to Stuckey’s book, Dan takes on these and other questions. Listen in to join the conversation!

In this episode, Brad discusses the troubling rise of MAGA and far-right extremism within California's local politics, specifically focusing on the state's school boards. Brad speaks with the anonymous founder of SoCal Extremism Watch (S.C.E.W.), who highlights the strategies and impact of these extremist groups.
The conversation covers recent incidents, such as a school board member casually using the N-word without repercussions, and the coordinated efforts of national organizations like the Council for National Policy to influence local elections and politics through dark money and organized activism. The episode emphasizes the importance of vigilance and active participation in democracy, even in states perceived as liberal strongholds like California.

Brad and Dan discuss the landmark election of the first American Pope, Leo XIV, highlighting his background, his critical stance on immigration, and his potential impact on American politics.
They also examine a troubling incident in Minnesota where a woman called a 5-year-old black child the N-word and subsequently raised significant funds through a Christian platform.
The conversation ties these issues into broader themes of white supremacy, conservative Christian victimhood, and the necessity of deeper education on purity culture and white Christian nationalism.

And how does this accusation reveal the deep-seated efforts at control and coercion that lie at the heart of high-control Christianity? Join Dan as he explores these issues in this week’s episode.
