Cody Boyce, the founder of Crate Media, turned to editing podcasts when his career in music hit a wall. As he built his company, he used social media to find Hayden Lee, a sound engineer and fellow musician, as well as Ben Gregson, a writer and editor. From one employee to a talented collective of passionate writers, audio engineers, designers and composers, Crate Media has now produced a broad range of shows across a variety of clients from individuals wanting to share their own point of view to small businesses and up through F500 companies and is just getting started.
In this episode, Cody, Hayden and Ben share their challenges, lessons learned in building a business, and the fuel that keeps them going. Because in the end, it’s a business built on their passions.

Are we really there for each other?
I recently published an article on Arianna Huffington’s Thrive Global about altruism, kindness and business after hearing several of my guests mention kindness in their advice for breaking through business inertia.
In their own ways, they stressed the importance of doing good and paying it forward, not just as an organization, as we commonly talk about these days, but as an individual. Because when you look around, the reality is that altruism in business really isn’t as common as we’d like to think.
In this episode, I revisit these interviews today to highlight the valuable points these guests have made and explore this topic further. What we’ll find it that being kind and helpful is simply good business sense.

In the last episode, we looked at how people make decisions in a world increasingly flooded with data. I talked with a panel of experts to understand whether gut-based or data-based decision making was more effective in business.
