  • Uncover the Reason Kayla Griffin Wants You to Join the NAACP NOW!

Looking for reasons to join the NAACP? Look no further than President Kayla Griffin, Esq.! In this video, she shares with us the importance of the NAACP and why it's important for you to join now.  President Griffin shares with us why the NAACP is so important, and what you can do to support the organization. She covers topics like social justice, the history of the NAACP, and the work the NAACP is doing today. If you're interested in learning more about the NAACP or want to join up and help support their work, then this is the video for you!  Meet the new president of the Cleveland NAACP CLEVELAND - As a little girl, Kayla Griffin knew she had the qualities that would prepare her for the role she has today.  "I've always wanted to protect others that were innate in me. And for as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be an attorney and do justice work," Griffin said.  Her time on the high school basketball court set her up for a future in the court of law.  "My father was my basketball coach and he trained me just as hard at home as he did on the court. We had a very strict home when it came to discipline," Griffin said.  After she graduated from Cleveland State, she got a job with the City of Cleveland and that's when she noticed there was something lacking when it came to how issues were addressed in our communities.  So she got involved with the NAACP.  "When you understand that you're connected to something bigger and greater than you and you understand the legacy and the resources that they have, that we can plug into, it really reshapes and reframes how you do the work," Griffin said. "There's definitely a weight and a responsibility that comes with the position."  On top of her to-do list are voting and civic engagement.  "I work as a voting rights specialist. I'm the state director for an organization called All Voting is local," Griffin said. "We're on the precipice of like a shift in our regime where we can really see democracy crumble or we could see our country stand up to the values and the ideas that it was founded on."  Cleveland has one of the lowest voting rates in the state and Griffin said voting is the front door to democracy, so getting people to vote is her main focus.  Kayla Griffin is All Voting's Local's Ohio Campaign State Director.  Griffin previously served as the special project director for the Division of Recreation for the City of Cleveland, implementing youth and young-adult violence prevention, intervention, and opportunity initiatives.  With a background in community organizing, Griffin advocates for voter rights and election protection as the chair of the Norman S. Minor Bar Association community engagement committee and serves the Cleveland Branch of the NAACP as the criminal justice and legal redress chair.  Griffin holds a Juris Doctorate and a Master of Public Administration from Cleveland State University and a bachelor's degree from Kent State University.

  • Sheila Wright: She Was Just an Average Joe Until THIS Happened!

Sheila Wright is the Co-Founder, President, and Managing Partner of Frontline Development Group, LLC. She worked for ten years under the direction of Albert B. Ratner, former CEO and Chair Emeritus of Forest City Realty Trust. She serves as Board Chair of Karamu House, the oldest black-producing theater in the country… CLEVELAND, Ohio – Six houses set to go up in Cleveland's East Side neighborhood may seem like a relatively modest development. Still, it's part of grander ambitions for the city's long-distressed Hough neighborhood. Developer Sheila Wright said at a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday that she hopes to start construction on the homes at East 65th Street and Linwood Avenue, north and west of League Park, before the end of the year. The homes will have two layouts: 1,800 square feet and 2,200 square feet. The development is dubbed "Allen Estates," after Carolyn Watts Allen and Robert Allen. Both built homes in Hough in the 1990s and advocated for the neighborhood. All are set to be owned by Black residents. Wright and her business partner Angela Bennett, who make up Frontline Development, are planning to move in, and other homeowners are already lined up. Pricing is still undetermined but Wright said the aim is to make the houses affordable. It's the first real estate project for Wright, known for her philanthropic and civil rights work in Cleveland, but she aims to make it a jumping-off point to improve Hough, which has long suffered from high crime rates and poverty. "We said we need homes and other people might too. And we hope to use this development and use our company as an opportunity to build wealth," Wright said from the stage Sunday. The estimated $2.1 million development is part of phase one for the area. While Wright and Bennett aren't ready to publicly divulge all details, Wright said Sunday that she envisions 15 homes, 46 brownstones and two buildings with apartments and retail on the first floor. That's on top of a series of projects set for west of Hough in the MidTown neighborhood, including a new headquarters for the Cleveland Foundation at East 66th Street and Euclid Avenue and a nearby "innovation district," where researchers and college students can collaborate on projects, likely in the medical technology field. New and old residents hope the projects revitalize Hough.
