Episode 118 of Strategic Possibilities Podcast, Episode 2 of our series for "Digital Art Renaissance."

In this episode, artist DarkoSilverstein shares the techniques he used to overcome what he calls, "narratives" that held him back, and how anyone can create a narrative that "helps them forward" and how to turn yourself into the main character of your own story. Whether you're currently an artist, or you want to pursue an artistic career, there is so much that we "tell ourselves about ourselves" that either limit us or cast doubts. For DarkoSilverstein, it was growing up a troubled kid and the doubt he had in his mind that he could overcome those times. But by learning how to take control of his personal life story and literally crafting it in a way that was helpful to him, he was able to motivate himself to pursue something he dreamed of for a very long time: creating a Sci-Fi universe. Along with his experience, DarkoSilverstein also shares some stories that can potentially inspire you to start doing the artistic work you'll love creating.

It's interesting to see the world through another person's eye's such as through a book, or art. J. Paul Getty's "How to Be Rich: His Formulas" provides an amazing look at what it means to be rich. I love the title "How to 'Be' Rich" and not how to get rich or how to make money or something like that. After all, they say to not wait to "achieve" something to "be" something. Put another way, don't wait to have a million dollars to be rich. And if you can start to "be" something (happy, rich, creative, successful, etc...), the the beingness will attract the things that person would have. - this is getting esoteric though. The fact is, Getty does an amazing job of giving you a couple hundred pages of his thoughts, experiences, beliefs, approaches to life, and more to let you experience what it means (from Getty's perspective) to "be rich." Very powerful.

I'm a sucker for just about any reputable book that talks about personal development and/or money. And this book "A Happy Pocket Full of Money" tops the charts of both. It is in a league of it's own. I read many books so I can't so "this one" or "that one" completely changed my life. And I take something powerful away from just about every book I read. But David Cameron Gikandi shares such a persuasive and researched view about money and happiness that makes this book great. And while many money books talk about starting a business, making a marketing plan, easy business ideas, and biography's of "how they did it," - this one does the one fundamental thing very well. That fundamental thing being making you understand why a happy pocket full of money is possible for everyone.

Wow! What an amazing and insightful book into a weeklong visit with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Douglas Abrams does such a great job of capturing the moments between these two spiritual (and political) leaders. And while the cover made me think this book might only be about spirituality, with a splash of pollyanna optimism, it wasn't. It went beyond that to capturing both their perspectives on how people can find greater happiness despite tough and challenging times.
