My guest is Adam Dylewski, Director of Programming, PBS Digital Studios and he talks about their big summer of “PBS Short Docs,” a curated collection of short documentaries to showcase the work of independent and diverse filmmakers on PBS Voices, a documentary-focused YouTube channel.


They kick off Pride Month with several outstanding docs including one that I recommend called “Prom of Their Dreams.” It is a sweet story about
a generation of LGBTQ community that grew up in the decades before the Stonewall Riots, prom was emblematic of the exclusion and fear of living in a world they could not experience as their authentic selves.


At Triangle Square, a haven for LGBTQ retirees in Hollywood, California, the idea of a “senior” prom has taken on an entirely new meaning. Tapping into their teenage selves, these liberated seniors ready themselves for the hottest event on the Triangle Square social calendar, reflecting back on who they were and how far they’ve come makes their prom night all the sweeter.

We chat with the charming and talented Genevieve O’Reilly who stars with Eric Bana in The Dry that opens today worldwide as well being available streaming on-demand, This is an old school murder mystery with a wonderful twist and turns that will keep you guessing till the very end.


The film is set in the Australian outback and is based on a best-selling book penned by Jane Harper. It is a well-acted, well-written, and well-directed movie that really grabs you and you might leave the theatre or for those streaming at home with an Aussie accent.


The Dry starts with Aaron Falk a police detective who returns to his drought-stricken hometown to attend a tragic funeral. But his return opens a decades-old wound - the unsolved death of a teenage girl. It is while at the funeral that he reconnects with Gretchen (O’Reilly) who is a lifelong friend and past love interest.


Once the two are together again they rekindle the friendship and together solve a dual mystery. The Dry is a must-see film and for those of us who love a mystery, this movie is full of wonderful nuggets to uncover.

My guest is Jed Mercurio the creative force behind the epic police drama Line of Duty. Series six of the wildly successful show will debut on May 18th here in the U.S. exclusively on Britbox. (https://www.britbox.com/us/ )


Last year when we spoke to Jed Series five had just come off of rave reviews for the BBC 1 and massive ratings but that was just the start of things to come for Line of Duty. In case you have not seen the show it is set in the fictional police anti-corruption unit AC-12, Line of Duty is a cat-and-mouse thriller that takes a probing look into modern policing and corruption. In the newest season, AC-12 faces their most enigmatic adversary yet - Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Davidson (Kelly Macdonald). With her unconventional conduct in a high-profile murder investigation raising suspicions, the team begins to challenge the facts of the case and question whether Davidson is really doing everything in her power to find the perpetrator – or if there is another factor in play.


For the many fans of Line of duty here in the U.S. watching on Britbox, you will recall that season five drew to a close, we think that fans are going to be quite surprised by how the sixth series begins but I can tell you that you will not be disappointed.


There is no question that Mercurio has proven anything by bringing Line of Duty to the small screen it is that he is a master of the plot twist and keeping views guessing which is what makes the show must-see TV. Make no mistake about it Line of Duty series six is going to be another well-written, well-acted and well-produced roller coasters ride and you would be wise to take the trip because it is well worth the time.

For my guest best-selling author, Peter James getting Grace from the pages of his best-selling novel to an ITV/Britbox hit did not come easy. He tells me that it took almost a decade to find the right people to make Grace come alive but when it did he knew it the instant that it happened.

Just like most James books, we follows Brighton-based DS Grace, a methodical man whose wife went missing some years ago and remains unfound, despite his best efforts. He is a very interesting and complex man who jumps off the screen and makes you want to follow his ride.


Okay, now on to Grace: Dead Simple: After a stag night prank appears to go horribly wrong, Grace is asked by a colleague (Richie Campbell, Small Axe) to help solve the time-sensitive case which may hit a little too close for comfort.


Then on May 4th, we get Grace: Looking Good Dead: Grace is called upon to help a family targeted for death after one of them witnesses a murder while doing a good deed. This is a world premiere, with US audiences getting it before the UK.

This week my guest is the very talented and versatile Jimmy Akingbola who shows us his comedy chops in the new ITV hit from the U.K. Kate and Koji, which drops Tuesday on Britbox. Joining Akingbola in this sitcom that has taken Britain by storm is another gifted actor none other than Vera herself the brilliant Brenda Blethyn.


Kate and Koji is a comedy that is centered on a relationship between Blethyn, who plays the grouchy, grudge-holding owner of a struggling seaside café, and Akingbola the very well-educated, out-of-place customer who sits in her empty greasy spoon establishment for hours.


But there is more to this story than may meet the eye and that is because Koji is a doctor who left the oppression of his homeland to seek a better life in the U.K and who one day hopes to practice medicine again in his new home country. At the same time Kate who not a fan of foreigners but she sees a way where he might just be her ticket to turning her failing business around.


So these mismatched pair see a way where they can help each other out despite the fact they are constantly trading barbs. Kate offers Koji a deal where he will give medical advice to help build up her customer base and in exchange, he will get food and drink for his medical advice.


This is a wonderful ensemble show with a truly funny supporting cast that both Akingbola and Blethyn playoff in the way we have seen done in Cheers or other classic comedies. Kate and Koji are well written, well-acted, and well worth checking out on Britbox.
