    Title: Philomena Wonderpen
Subtitle: Philomena Wonderpen is a Teeny Weeny Doll
    Author: Ian Bone
    Narrator: Melissa Chambers
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 15 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-04-07
    Publisher: Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 3 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
Everyone from Philomena's class will be at Toy Universe this Saturday. A silver ticket has been hidden in the store. And whoever finds it wins a mountain of toys! Philomena and her friends have a plan to find the silver ticket. But then Philomena gets stuck looking after her little brother, Tobias. If only she had some magic way to catch up with her friends.... Then, she remembers her wonder pen and draws herself some rocket shoes. She says the magic words - "I wish!" - but instead of seeing her rocket shoes, she and Tobias have become teeny weeny! Will they ever get back to normal size?
    Editorial Reviews:
With the help of her magic wonderpen, Philomena can make her drawings become real. Indeed, listeners will meet Philomena in the process of sketching up a marshmallow cushion. Nevertheless, the wonderpen doesnt always work as planned. Visiting a toy store, Philomena accidentally shrinks herself down to doll-sized dimensions. Embarking on a pint-sized plight, Philomena goes for a spin in a toy car, and takes flight in a model airplane.
Prolific actress, director, and playwright Melissa Chambers delivers stunningly rangy voice acting rife with sprightly exuberance. Notably, Chambers contrasts the brash spontaneity of Philomena with the more staid reserve of her friend George. Indeed, Chambers delivers the same diversity of voices that one might well expect to encounter in the course of a feature-length Disney film.

Fun story for children 8 and under
My 7 yo girl and 5 yo boy loved this creative story! Despite a significant Aussie accent, my kids could follow the plot well, and the story has a healthy dose of excitement but nothing scary. My daughter related to the trials and tribulations of having an over-active imagination.

David Metzenthen, the recipient of several book awards over his career, is one of Australia's leading writers for young people.
In his coming-of-age story, The Really Really High Diving Tower, poignantly narrated with tenderness by Francis Greenslade, two young boys struggle with a timeless childhood quandary. Its a tale of conquering fear, not only of a really, really high diving tower, but of adolescence itself.
Will the boys courage waver on the platform as their peers look on, or will they take the plunge and emerge one step closer to young adulthood?

    Title: Footy Shorts
    Author: Margaret Clark
    Narrator: Mark Mitchell

    Language: English
    Release date: 07-24-06
    Publisher: Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
Lennie knows he's not legend material. When Calvin Calamari, a specky player, drop-punts in from up north into the Cheetahs' under-15 footy team, Lennie sees a way out. Calvin's cool, Lennie's laid-back, the family's happy, but there's another big problem they all need to solve.
    Editorial Reviews:
In Footy Shorts, athletic genius seems to have skipped a generation. Margaret Clark's bench-riding teen hero Lennie cannot measure up to his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father, who all played legendary footy/soccer for the Cheetahs. But Clark's series for young readers wouldn't be Shorts without a life-changing twist.
Mark Mitchell authentically becomes first-person narrator Lennie, who goes from being stampeded on the field to realizing what he truly desires to do with his future after he meets barefooted soccer talent Calvin Calamari. In Mitchell's microphone, the exaggerated, melodramatic emotions of the boy hero enhance the audiobook's sense of humor without sacrificing its psychological realism.

Great illustrations for a Great Story --- A great Author and A great Artist
This is another beautiful children's book illustrated by my favorite artist: Don Montileaux
The story is written by L Frank Baum, who wrote 'The Wizard of Oz.'
Baum lived in eastern South Dakota. This is a tale of rulers and leaders in a herd of buffalo.
Te recent fire in Custer State Park and Wind Cave made this story more poignant.
    Brothers, Bullies and Bad Guys
This story is a fast read for kids. It moves along fast and gives good insights on how to survive if needed in a fanciful and fictional way. Mostly the rules are have enough change for vending machines, know how to drive a boat, maybe a car, ride a horse, there's a little love interest going on there too, not to mention saving the parents. I don't know how the author did this all in one book. Can't wait to read the sequel!
    Enjoyable read
It was nice being able to see one of Baum's shorter works so beautifully illustrated. The language is at times a bit difficult for young readers, but I can see children being read to enjoying hearing it roll off the tongue.
The glossary at the back is a nice touch as is the introduction.
The story of the bully getting his comeuppance is a familiar one; however, the way story unfurls is distinctly different.
    Unofficial Kindle book
Please note that the Kindle Edition, entitled [The Original] Enchanted Buffalo, is not authorized by the South Dakota State Historical Society Press, which published the fully illustrated hardcover edition of this story.

    Publisher: August House
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 5 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
What Bobby Norfolk does with the material makes it so much more than an exercise in wisdom literature. Listening to this collection, one has the sense of being in the presence of a master performer of the oral tradition. Bobby Norfolk's dynamic pacing, the range of his incredible voice, and his mastery of the story material itself, make this new recording an important and satisfying addition to your storytelling or folklore shelf.
    For Ages Six to Adult
    Editorial Reviews:
Author and narrator Bobby Norfolk brings the young heroes and heroines found in these intense fables to life. Norfolks voice is explosively energetic, and his tone is quite exaggerated. Each character gets a unique and apt voice, actions are furiously described, and the sly wisdom in these stories is unearthed and shared triumphantly. Norfolks highly animated style differs greatly from the norm. The stories are not rendered with quiet knowing, they are drummed out with great enthusiasm. Listeners who find folk parables to be staid will enjoy these tricky stories and Norfolks stunning performance.
