Title: The Tin Ring - A Remarkable Memoir of Love and Survival in the Holocaust (unabridged) Author: Zdenka Fantlova Narrator: Ann Rachlin Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 8 hours 56 minutes Release date: February 22, 2022 Genres: History & Culture Publisher's Summary: The Tin Ring by Zdenka Fantlova is read by Ann Rachlin. A unique and incredible story of love, human endurance, and willpower. How a 17-year-old girl survived the horrors of six Nazi concentration camps. The author, now 99 years old, is a compelling speaker and still available for interviews. She had one of the longest queues for her book signing when she appeared at the Hay Festival. Zdenka Fantlová's peaceful life was changed forever when she was sent to Terezín concentration camp. Here, she was given a humble engraved tin ring by her first love Arno. When he gave her the ring he said, 'That's for our engagement. And, to keep you safe. If we are both alive when the war ends I will find you.' Arno was sent east on a penal transport later that same day. Zdenka survived six concentration camps including Auschwitz, Gross Rosen, Mauthausen, and Belsen - the worst of all - risking her life for the tin ring. In the last chaotic days of the war in Belsen she crawled to a Red Cross post. There she was saved by an unknown British soldier to whom the audiobook is dedicated. 'An unforgettable memoir...deserves to be read for its unique story and for its shared message about the unrelenting human spirit.' (Publisher's Weekly) 'These are stories we must read and never forget.' (Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks) 'Zdenka Fantlová and her story made a lasting impression. She survived six concentration camps, endured horrors the like of which most of us can't begin to comprehend, yet never lost the will to live or her optimism for a better future. During her time in the camps she kept a little tin ring, made for her by her boyfriend. She risked her life to keep this humble object that meant so much to her.' (Fiona Bruce, BBC's Antiques Roadshow)

Title: Journey in Blue: A Peek into the Workers' Party of Singapore Author: Yee Jenn Jong Narrator: Joshua Lim Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 7 hours 59 minutes Release date: August 25, 2021 Genres: History & Culture Publisher's Summary: After decades of overwhelming political domination by the People's Action Party (PAP), Singapore has entered a phase of political transition. It started with the loss of a Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the 2011 general election (GE2011). After a huge rebound in the fortunes of the PAP in the 2015 general election following the death of founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, the transition resumed in the 2020 general election with the loss of yet another GRC. This book looks at the Workers' Party, Singapore's leading opposition party, through the eyes of Yee Jenn Jong, former Non-constituency Member of Parliament and Central Executive Committee member of the party. Jenn Jong took an unexpected leap into opposition politics just weeks before GE2011 and came out with a narrow loss of just one percent of the popular votes. In this book, he recounts his three contests in the general elections from 2011–2020, parliamentary work, and other activities in opposition politics. This book hopes to let readers better understand the nature of the work by opposition politicians in Singapore, which has been dominated by the PAP's narrative since 1959. The author also shares his thoughts on the shape of Singapore's politics going forward. © 2021 by Yee Jenn Jong. Title: James Madison: A Biography Author: Ralph Ketcham Narrator: Bill Burrows Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 38 hours 4 minutes Release date: May 2, 2021 Genres: History & Culture Publisher's Summary: The best one volume biography of Madison's life, Ketcham's biography not only traces Madison's career, it gives readers a sense of the man. As Madison said of his early years in Virginia under the study of Donald Robertson, who introduced him to thinkers like Montaigne and Montesquieu, 'all that I have been in life I owe largely to that man.' It also captures a side of Madison that is less rarely on display (including a portrait of the beautiful Dolley Madison). 'Madison's personality comes alive in these pages, his strengths and weaknesses of mind and character clearly outlined. His great services in the Constitutional Convention of 1787 are graphically portrayed. The analysis of his political theory, and of the way in which he sought to apply it to the establishment of of government under the Constitution, is excellent. The depiction of Jeffersonian and Madisonian foreign policy up to the outbreak of the War of 1812 is clear and succinct. This is an excellent biography. American Historical Review Utilizing the vast amount of source material made available in the last 30 years, Ketcham has captured the essential man in his times and in doing so has made him understandable for us in our own day. Los Angeles Times This single volume has provided a penetrating and highly readable biography which merits distinction as the best one-volume life of Madison yet written. Virginia Magazine of History and Biography Ketcham's long-standing familiarity with Madison's life and times is evident in this accessible work...Ketcham has written an enjoyable and scholarly narrative that will no doubt be considered of great value to Montpelier's more serious visitors, as well as students, scholars, and general readers with an interest in the founding couple.
