Confusion is the seed of depression and anxiety. Confusion beyond our current ability to resolve a problem makes us feel trapped. If we feel trapped with no way out, we become hopeless. Hopelessness is the deepest level of depression.
With confusion understood as the seed of depression, then as Strong Dads we must do our best to help our kids work through confusion in their life. Giving them the skills to problem solve and find ways through the potential traps of life.
The conversation concerning the issue of Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria is one of deep confusion. Our youth, (mostly females), are arriving at an intersection in life where they believe their gender is questionable. Something that could possibly be chosen. But not just their gender, it could also be their sexual attraction, or maybe not feeling attracted to anyone, or possibly sexually attracted to everyone. Now this intersection has so many choices. Confusion begins to set in.
In the meantime, while all of these choices now seem to be available, they have other people at the intersection as well. Some in front of them and some behind them. Some seeming to lead the way to a particular path, and some nudging from behind. This creates anxiety.
This is.a big deal for the youth as well as the parent. What seems like absolute freedom to choose becomes an overwhelming task of decision making. Yet, the thing that we see our culture pushing to the side is God's Nature.
God's nature is designed by him for us. He has made us perfectly to be who we are in his nature. When we push back against his nature, we are sure to experience trouble. Whether it's how we spend money, time, our talents, or even our sexual design and identity. God has an intention for us and to mock it is a dangerous and confusing thing.
As Strong Dads we encourage our kids but we are also their to help them learn God's intention and direction in their life. If we fail to introduce them to God's desires and design then they certainly will be influenced by all the other traffic at the intersection.
