  • 041 5 Realities of Owning a Horse
In this episode, Katrina dives into some realities (good and bad) that come with owning a horse and that you simply need to accept as a horseperson. Yes, horses are wonderful and they can do amazing things for the hearts and souls of their owners, but they also come with some definite challenges. If you are a horse owner, you will know exactly what Katrina is talking about in this episode. If you don't own a horse, or haven't been around them much, this will be a bit of an eye-opener and it touches on some things that most people don't talk about.

  • 037 Rider Weight
Whether you like it or not rider weight matters, particularly if you are in a sport like barrel racing. The more weight a horse has to carry, the slower they are going to be. And speed (or lack thereof) shouldn't be your only concern. Carrying extra rider weight is hard on a horse physically, as many studies have shown. Learn about the impacts here.

  • 035 Wearing Spurs
Should you be wearing spurs? Never? Sometimes? All of the time? On certain horses? If you ask some people, they will say absolutely not. There is no reason that you should wear spurs. In this episode, Katrina pushes against that and advocates for the use of spurs in certain situations, arguing that they can be an extremely useful (and completely humane) tool to use. Give it a listen!

It's that time of year when we all start thinking about mud management. Unfortunately, it's usually too late when we start thinking about it. With some relatively simple solutions you can get through spring without going through March mud madness!

About Strong in the Saddle

From the publisher's feed

If you love horses and ranch life, then you found the right podcast. My name is Katrina and I own a ranch with my husband in central Alberta. My passion for horses and the western way of life comes from my childhood growing up on a cattle ranch with my family. I created this podcast to share my life on the ranch and with horses. In each week's episode I try to be open and transparent about horse and ranch life - both the good and the bad. I truly dedicate all of my free time to my horses and our ranch.
