  • Steve Cully's Festivus of Sports Show Episode 0021

Festivus returns with UConn Football Legendary QB Shane Stafford co-hosting. We evaluated the college football playoffs overall and the National Championship. Ohio State was clearly the better team and had outstanding athletes. Notre Dame won a tough battle against Penn State, upset Georgia, and defeated a tough Indiana team; all it took for me was watching Ohio State dismantle #1 Oregon. Every time I looked up, they scored again. Notre Dame has tremendous upside, but Ohio State, with their 20 million dollar NIL money, showed Championships can be bought.

We also review the NFL playoffs,  talk about what the Vikings should do with Sam Darnold, the Jets hiring Aaron Glen, and what comes next for QB Aaron Rogers. He has been paid his fully guaranteed money, but cutting him will result in a 49.5 million dollar cap hit, even if he ends up retiring. They aren't in a position to draft a top quarterback, so I suggested trading back and taking Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord, filling some holes with extra draft picks.

We both felt that the Bill's playcalling against the Chiefs was poor, and it was heartbreaking to see them lose in the AFC Championship.

We also make our early Superbowl picks.

  • Steve Cully's Festivus of Sports Show Episode 0020

Shane Stafford could not make it this week; my Co-Host is former UConn Offensive Lineman Courtney Williams, AKA the Jedi, for playing center and having the ability to outsmart defenses, along with making incredibly tough blocks.

We talked about the NY Jets, which was difficult for Courtney, being a lifelong fan. He believes they need a complete reboot and should move on from Aaron Rogers. However, from where they pick in the draft, there may not be a top-level quarterback on the board. Hopefully, they will hire a great GM who will bring in an offensive-minded coach to get things on track. The Giants decided to keep Joe Shoen, and Brian Daboll was befuddling. An Argument can be made because Shoen drafted well last year, hitting on Malik Naibers and Tyrone Tracey. We debate if Sanders and Edwards are available at QB and if they are as good as advertised.

Going over the NFL playoffs, who will come out victorious this weekend, and what the Vikings should do with the Sam Darnold situation. We predict who will be advancing into the NFC/AFC championship games. Then we look back on the college football playoffs, and I can't believe the National Championship will be decided by #8 ranked Ohio State vs #7 ranked Notre Dame. Maybe the teams who received byes ended up having too much time off. We made our prediction for Monday. We talked a little about college basketball and more. Thank you, Courtney, for stepping in, and Shane, we miss you!

  • Through My Eyes Episode 017

In this episode of Through My Eyes, Ralph Renzulli interviews Vietnam Veteran Paul Daw from Fort Plain. Daw served in Vietnam from Nov 1969 to May 1971. He received three Bronze Stars, including two for Valor and two Purple Hearts.

Daw said that in the last 15-20 years, he's become more open to talking about his experiences and that talking with other Vets helps his PTSD.

Renzulli remarked, "This is like personal therapy for you," and Daws said, "Yes."

About the show 'Through My Eyes'

Before COVID, Renzulli had started a series of interviews with Little Falls Vietnam Veterans. The show was produced by The Creative Outpost and was filmed at the Little Falls Library in the China room. Thirteen episodes were completed before the program was shuttered.

Initially, it was only Little Falls Vets, but Renzulli thought if someone was willing to do it, why not Ilion, Mohawk, Herkimer, Dolgeville, Fort Plain, or Canajoharie? “Anyone willing to do it,” he stated.

Renzulli has expanded the show to include veterans from World War II through Afghanistan. “I don’t know how many people we have around here who have participated in those wars, but there have to be quite a few.”

  • Through My Eyes Episode 016

In this episode of Through My Eyes, Ralph Renzulli interviews Vietnam Veteran Bruce Hartness, who served as an infantry soldier in the Army from May 1967 until May 1968.

He said that he hadn’t paid attention to the war when he was in school, but when he graduated, he was drafted six months later.

“I had never really thought about it,” but when he got the notice, he said it felt sudden, startling, and eye-opening.

Hartness grew up in Holland Patent but most recently is a Dolgeville resident.

He said that he had never really talked about his experience to anyone before this and that after coming home, it was probably one of the reasons he got into drugs.
