We have been studying about the importance of praying for our leaders and those in authority. The Apostle Paul said in 1 Timothy 2:1-2:
1 Timothy 2:1-2 says:
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
Yesterday, we discussed the importance of intercession. I shared about how Abraham was able to intercede for Sodom and Gomorrah with God (although the Lord still could not find 10 righteous souls in those cities – kind of like what we find in our inner cities today, isn’t it)?
Let’s read Genesis 18:23-32:
23 And Abraham came near and said, “Would You also ddestroy the righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it? 25 Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”
26 So the Lord said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.”
27 Then Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: 28 Suppose there were five less than the fifty righteous; would You destroy all of the city for lack of five?”
So He said, “If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it.”
29 And he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose there should be forty found there?”
So He said, “I will not do it for the sake of forty.”
30 Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Suppose thirty should be found there?”
So He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”
31 And he said, “Indeed now, I have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: Suppose twenty should be found there?”
So He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty.”
32 Then he said, j“Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose ten should be found there?”
And He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.”
God was willing to withhold His Judgement for the sake of ten righteous people, just because Abraham asked Him to!
What does that tell you about the Right Standing YOU have with God because of what Jesus did at the Cross? We are in a far better relationship with our Heavenly Father than Abraham could have ever dreamed of! Yet, most Christians refuse to walk it out!
There MUST BE more than 10 righteous people in the United States right now! Am I right?
So, let’s pray for our leaders BOLDLY! Let’s intercede for this nation BOLDLY. As the Apostle Paul said, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
I know we have been studying about God’s Judgement and Wrath, but there is another side of this story that we will begin to study about tomorrow. And that is how God will move to change this nation – IF WE PRAY for the people who lead and govern this nation AND ASK GOD TO CHANGE THE NATION!
Amen!

Scripture For Today:
Psalm 90:1
“A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.”
Praying for Those in Authority pt 4
We have been studying about the importance of praying for our leaders and those in authority. The Apostle Paul said in 1 Timothy 2:1-2:
1 Timothy 2:1-2 says:
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
Notice the word “intercessions” is used here.
Intercession means to stand in the gap in behalf of another person (that is from Ezekiel 22:30).
For example, when God planned to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because of the great wickedness being committed and perpetuated in those cities, God came down and talked with His friend, Abram or Abraham – first. Before He acted.
We see Abraham making intercession for the residents of those cities. Of course, he was trying to protect his nephew, Lot, and his family. But, by protecting Lot, he was also protecting the people who were doing the wickedness, right?
And, by the way, the immorality and wickedness happening in the United States right now far exceeds that of Sodom and Gomorrah. And if God does not judge the United States harshly for our wickedness – He should apologize to the residents of Sodom and Gomorrah… which He will not do for He judges Righteously. So – what does that tell you about the near future for this nation?
So, if enough Christians will intercede for our leaders and the sin and immorality of this nation – God can (and WILL) move people, mountains and orchestrate events to FIX these problems. But, if the Christians – that means YOU and I as well – do not become actively involved in this type of intercession…
Well, let’s just say it is not going to end well for this nation.
Don’t shout me down when I’m preaching good!
Personally, I believe the handwriting has already appeared on the wall. This nation has squandered it’s unique blessing and has become a nation of perverts, idolatry worshippers. We worship the creation rather than the Creator. Men with men, women with women, both with babies. Trying to change boys into girls and girls in to boy… the list goes on and on.
One prophet said, “Our sins have piled as high as Heaven…”
Anyway – the point I’m trying to make is this. IF YOU want to see a change in leadership in this nation… IF YOU want to see things improve in this nation… then YOU must take the imitative to do as the Apostle Paul commanded, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
Amen!

What we are learning is that God is concerned with us. He will change things in our nation IF we ask Him to. Everyone is familiar with 2 Chronicles 7:14. This verse clearly says that it does not take everyone in the nation to pray and repent and ask God for healing in our land – but Christian. Believers have the power and the authority to affect things going on in our government.
Amen!
I’m not just talking about at the ballot box, though that is one very important aspect of it. But through PRAYER, we can influence those in authority to do God’s Will – even when they do not know it IS God’s Will. They will just do what the Holy Spirit inspires them to do to accomplish God’s Will.
And, we know from studying scriptures, that sometimes that influence includes things we do not want to happen – but that MUST happen – in order to more effectively bring about God’s Will.
Think about the Holocaust. Absolutely terrible. Over six million Jewish men, women and children murdered. Why did God allow that to happen?
To bring about the fulfillment of scripture that said in Isaiah 66:8 – “Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once?”
Absolutely, the Holocaust was terrible. But yet, God allowed it to happen through evil men in order to fulfill scripture. These Jews BELIEVED in God. So, when they departed this world, in whatever fashion, they were secure in their beliefs.
We should be the same way.
As we see this entire society going to hell in a hand-basket, we have nothing to fear. Nothing. Not ONE THING!
We studied a few days ago that we are not to have a CARE IN THIS WORLD. Another way to say that is “we are not care for this world.”
I know I don’t.
It concerns me when I see this government embracing Satanism and other immoral things. But it does not affect me. I rejoice!
Rejoice, Brother Bob?
Absolutely! I laugh at what they are doing – thinking they are defeating my God! I rejoice when I see all of the signs of the soon return of Jesus happening right before my eyes!
In Luke 10:24, Jesus said, “Blessed are your eyes that see what you see. For I tell you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
Luke 21:28 says, “And when these things BEGIN TO COME TO PASS (which they are), then look up, and lift up your heads, for your redemption is drawing near!”
So, as I close for today, I want to pray for you that your Spiritual eyes are being opened to what is happening in the world today – and to REJOICE! For the soon return of our Lord is at hand!

Notice Paul said, “…FIRST OF ALL…” And, in case you were confused about WHO to pray for FIRST, he said, “…for kings, and for all that are in authority…”
In Paul’s day, kings ruled over the nations. That is why Paul said to pray for the kings and for ALL that are in authority. In our day, instead of “kings,” we would simply say, “heads of government and all that are in positions of authority.”
Why would Paul want Christians to pray for kings and all who were in authority? Especially with all the wickedness those kings were demonstrating and oppressing those who worshipped the Lord Jesus instead of the kings?
The answer is really profound – and one which escapes most people, including so called Christians today…
Because whatever happens in the nation in which we live is going to affect all of us! Paul told us WHY we are to pray for “all those in authority” as well. He said, “…that we may lead a quite and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
You see, God is concerned about US. Isn’t that why He sent Jesus to the cross in the first place? Because He “so loved the world (and that includes us)”…right?
When a people choose an unrighteous leader, things go horribly wrong in that nation. Look at the United States right now. The people that are running our government are not lifting up Christian values – they are trying to diminish Christian values and morality. It is an “anything goes” mentality. “If it feels good to you – do it.” If you are offended by what someone else is doing, get over it. If you believe something different – then YOU are the one who is wrong.
That is the spiritual situation of our governmental leaders.
God cannot bless that. He will not bless that. Which is why so many things are happening at once time all over this nation.
Riots in the cities, droughts and wild fires in the west. Floods in other areas of the nation. Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes – even on the east coast of the United States. Inflation, stagnation, increased energy costs, decreased wages. COVID re-emerging.
These things affect all of us.
And it all starts at the top. Which is why the Apostle Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, says to “pray for those in authority.” That is from the office of the President down through all branches of government, to the States and the cities as well. Down to the appointed dog catcher or whatever.
We need to pray FOR ALL AUTHORITIES, including the Police and fire officials. Amen!
If you refuse to do so – you are disobeying God’s will – which does not bring the blessing to you then. It allows the curse to come upon you. Look at what is happening in this nation and, unless you are spiritual brain dead, you can see what I mean.

We all should be praying for leaders at all levels of government, whether you agree with their politics or not. Even if you have an unrighteous leader in office, the prayer of a righteous man can affect them. Amen!
1 Timothy 2:1-2 says:
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
That is probably what is wrong with this country right now. If you are of a different political leaning than the leaders in office, you refuse to pray for them. That is total backwards from what the Apostle Paul had to say about the matter.
At the time he wrote this, Timothy was the pastor of a New Testament church. Paul is writing to him. I like how Paul worded his instructions to Timothy (and, through his letter, preserved in the Bible, to us today). He said, “I exhort therefore, that FIRST OF ALL…”
Earlier, in First Thessalonians, 5:25, Paul said, “Brethren, pray for US.” He invited the Church at Thessalonica to pray for him. It is definitely scriptural to pray for one another. Amen!
But, all too often, we put ourselves FIRST in the praying. Sometimes, that is as far as we ever get! In other words, most of the time, we are just praying selfishly for ourselves or about our own needs and for our own family. We go completely against what the Apostle Paul instructed – under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit!
Which means, when we fail to pray for our LEADERS FIRST – we are going against the Godly order that the Holy Spirit has ordained. You are going against the Word of God and the Will of God.
Is it any wonder why this country is so screwed up right now? Even believers have failed to do what God instructed. Amen!
I want to pray for you right now, and myself included, that we will begin to do what God instructed the Apostle Paul to share with us. That, “FIRST OF ALL, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
Amen!
