Praying in tongues is a way to pray Supernaturally to the Father. As we discussed earlier, the Holy Spirit can help you with your praying.
I cannot explain how important this aspect of prayer has been to me, personally. There is no way for me to put in words (at least in English words) the value of praying in tongues. What I’ve been sharing these last several days is just the tip of the iceberg. Amen!
There have been times when I would pray for my family, some member of my family, in tongues. I did not know of anything going on (at least not at that time). But the Holy Spirit had quickened my spirit and inspired me to pray.
Sometimes, I will pray in English and say something like, “Father, I don’t know what’s going on with “so and so” right now, but you do. I lift them to you in prayer and I thank you in advance for interceding in this situation….” Then I will shift over into praying in other tongues.
“Well, brother Bob, how long do you pray in other tongues for something your don’t know what your praying about?”
I’m so glad you asked me that question! Praise God!
It depends! I may pray one minute, 20 minutes or an hour…
How do I know when to quit… I can sense it!
You see, when you pray like that, there is an urgency. A sense of urgency is the only way I can describe it.
Police officers and combat military folks will understand what I’m talking about. I’ll try to explain it as best I can here…
As a police officer, or as a military service member, when a situation arises that quickly moves into that “life or death” scenario, where every single second counts in the outcome. What you do this second will determine success or failure…it is THAT KIND of urgency I’m talking about.
As I pray in the Spirit, I can sense that urgency. It makes me focus strictly on the situation being shared by the Holy Spirit. Many times, I have no clue. But I sense the urgency.
Just like in the natural, in the military or as a police officer, once the initial threat is over, you are not finished yet. There is still securing the scene, and all that other stuff that has to take place. But it is more of a routine operation at that point.
Praying like this in the Spirit is the same thing. The URGENCY remains until suddenly, it is gone. You still need to pray – but now, you can sense that whatever the situation was, it is going back to a sense of normalcy. That is the best way I can describe it.
So, when I’m prompted to pray in the Spirit like that, for a family member, or anyone else the Lord puts on my mind, I continue praying FERVENTLY in the Spirit until I sense a BREAKTHROUGH has occurred. Then – and only then – do I let up.
When you get to where God can trust you to pray through like that, He will start to use in other areas outside of your family. He knows you will pray fervently FOR your family. But when He can trust you to pray with that same fervent spirit of others – look out! That is where the true power of the Holy Spirit will begin to be on display in your life!
I want to pray for you to start entering that type of relationship with God. Where He can just inspire you to drop everything and enter into a fervent prayer session in divers tongues and praying until breakthrough comes. Be it 5 minutes, 10 minutes or one hour or more. Where God can trust you to just stick with it until breakthrough happens.

We have been focusing these last several days on the importance of praying in other tongues. I want you to have a complete understanding of the scriptural importance of this very vital method of prayer and communication with God.
Tongues is also a means to build yourself up spiritually. We have read 1 Corinthians 14 before, but in verse 4, the Apostle Paul says, “He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself.”
That means he builds himself up spiritually. Amen!
Jude 20 tells us, “But you, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.”
This verse does NOT say “praying in the Holy Ghost will GIVE you Faith…” It DOES SAY that praying in the Holy Ghost will build up your most holy faith! There is a difference!
Praying in tongues will build up and make stronger the Faith you already have! It is a means of spiritual edification! Glory to God!
I have witnessed too many miracles that have occurred, in my presence and yes, after I prayed that can ONLY be attributed to God. And every single one of them involved the Holy Spirit.
I can do nothing of myself. I want to make that statement right up front. These people did not get healed because “brother Bob prayed for me.” No. I do not take any credit.
I give ALL credit to God and to Jesus our Great Physician. I was a tool, used by the Master. Amen!
Some of these involved close family members. Some involved friends. Some were on their death beds. Some were facing life changing surgeries. But ALL of them were healed by the God, not me! I want to make that clear.
Speaking in tongues is a way we can magnify God. Acts 10:46 even says, “For they heard them speak in tongues and magnify God!” Amen!
When we magnify God, that means we are putting ALL of the focus on Him, not us. That way, whatever happens, people will give HIM the Glory and the Praise. Amen! And that is the way it should be. Speaking in divers tongues allows God to operate in ways that only He can achieve.
I want to pray with you right now to allow God to use YOU to reach other people. It may or may not involve healings. It just may be a prayer of intercession. It really does not matter to YOU how God uses you. The main point is making yourself available TO BE USED.
It is like a soldier in World War One. Radios were just being invented and the fastest way of communication was to send runners through the trenches. It was a dangerous job. They usually selected the lowest ranking person to be the runner. They would have to expose themselves to enemy fire while crossing the trenches. It was an extremely dangerous job.
But yet, if you think about it, that runner had the most important job! Without the information that was being relayed back to the headquarters, the commander had no clue what was taking place out on the front! If the commander had no idea what was going on, he could not maneuver his forces to counter an attack or launch an attack. It was the RUNNER that enabled the commander to win the battle.
It works the same way with praying in tongues. YOU are the person whom God can choose to speak through. YOU are the person who puts themselves in position to be used by God to bless others. IF YOU do not make yourself available, IF YOU do not yield yourself to speak in divers tongues when prompted by the Holy Spirit – there is someone, somewhere that could be lost forever and spend eternity in hell…because YOU thought it was beneath you to pray in tongues and let God impart something to you.
How do you think that will turn out for you when it is time to reap your Heavenly rewards?
I want to pray for you right now to yield yourself to be used by God. To yield yourself to the Holy Spirit to speak in divers tongues. Just in your private time… just start there. You may feel silly at first. But do it anyways. Just 15-30 seconds.
I can guarantee, after a few weeks of doing that every day for 15-30 seconds, it will not seem so silly. You will actually begin to TELL that speaking in that unknown language IS building up your most holy Faith! Amen!

Some people will say that they “pray in other tongues.” I know what they mean, I sometimes say the same thing. But that does not mean that all speaking in tongues IS prayer!
Now, I have to explain that, right? Praise God!
It is true, that when we pray in tongues in our own private prayer life, we are praying directly to God. That is true. But some people want to leave it right there. They limit what God can do through them by not allowing the Holy Spirit to use speaking in divers tongues to minister to OTHERS through THEM!
For example, speaking in divers tongues is a means, as we have already shared in other sessions, where the Holy Spirit can speak THROUGH YOU, through another believer, in an unknown tongue to you, but it is a KNOWN tongue to the hearer. I gave a couple of examples of that in earlier sessions.
Another example was a service a minister I know of told about this happening. He said there was a young Jewish boy who came to their service one night. He was in the Air Force and only had one friend and that was a young man who wanted to invite the Jewish boy to the service, but told him he did not want to offend him. He was Jewish and did not believe Jesus really was the Messiah. But he said, “You’re my only friend, I’ll go with you.”
As the service got going, the pastor started to pray in tongues. There was usually someone who would stand up to interpret, but this night, nobody stood up to give the interpretation. After a minute or so, the pastor continued with the service.
Afterwards, as the pastor was greeting people as they were leaving, the Jewish boy shook hands with the Pastor and asked him how he knew he was Jewish?
The Pastor responded he did not know he was Jewish and then asked, “Why did you ask me that?”
The Jewish boy said the pastor had spoken directly to him, in perfect Hebrew, and had even spoken the Jewish pronunciation of his name, including his middle name.
The pastor was shocked! So was this boys friend!
The pastor asked him what else had been said…
The boy responded with, “You told me that Jesus was the true Messiah and that I was to believe in Him.”
He then told the pastor that he had to go and think about this more…
The next Sunday, that Jewish boy and his friend came back to church and the Jewish boy received Jesus as his Savior! Praise GOD! Amen! Don’t shout me down when I’m preaching good! Praise God!
Do not limit what God can do when He wants to use YOU! If you are unwilling to yield yourself to the Holy Spirit and speak in other tongues, even in private, let alone in public, you limit God!
Don’t LIMIT GOD with your prayers! Amen!
Don’t LIMIT GOD by not being willing to allow HIM to use YOU with supernatural prayer in divers tongues.
I want to pray for you right now. I want to pray that you will be willing to allow God to USE YOU by speaking in unknown tongues. Praise God!

Some people say, “What is the use of speaking in tongues? There are some people who have been filled with the Holy Ghost, baptized with the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues. But then their human reasoning sees no purpose in continuing speaking in tongues after that initial experience.
It’s almost like they have a checklist…
Get Saved…check!
Get Baptized… check!
Get filled with the Holy Spirit…check!
Speak with other tongues… Check!
Then…go to church…Check!
But that’s it. They never do anything else with their salvation, let alone the Baptism of the Holy Spirit or speaking in tongues! What a waste!
Anyone that can read and has half a brain should be able to see what importance is placed on speaking in tongues! Amen!
Look at 1 Corinthians chapter 14. The Apostle Paul devoted almost an entire chapter to the subject of speaking in tongues! He talks “a little bit” about prophecy and a “little bit” about interpretation – but the majority is primarily teaching us about the importance of speaking in tongues! Praise God!
If you study it out – there are not too many chapters in the Bible that focus almost entirely on one subject matter. But yet, here we are! Almost a complete chapter on something that many Christians want to ignore!
I mean, everyone says PRAYER is important. You do believe prayer is important, don’t you?
“Well, of course, brother Bob! Prayer is vitally important!”
I couldn’t agree more…hence the reason I’m devoting time each and every day in 2021 to go over a different aspect of prayer with you every single morning. Amen!
But yet, nowhere in the Bible do you see an entire chapter devoted to a discussion of prayer! None!
Paying your tithes and the giving of offerings is important to, right? But yet, again, there is not an entire chapter devoted to a discussion of how important it is!
Here’s another one…water baptism! Entire denominations have started with an emphasis on this…but yet, again, there is not an entire chapter devoted stressing the importance of water baptism, is there?
Oh, here’s a good one…the NEW BIRTH! I would say that is very, very important, right? I mean that would rank way up with the breathing! If you don’t breath, you die, right? If you don’t have the new birth, you die forever! Amen! Don’t shout me down when I’m preaching good!
But yet, do you find anywhere in the Bible where an entire chapter is devoted to the subject of the NEW BIRTH? Nope. None. Not one.
There are many VERSES that discuss these topics. They are scattered throughout the Bible. Yet, as important as these topics are, the Holy Spirit did not lead anyone to write an entire chapter on any of these subjects.
That does not mean they are not important. They are important. On the other hand, we must also realize that when we DO SEE an entire chapter devoted to one particular subject, such as the Crucifixion, I mean, that would be important, right? And we do see chapters in the Gospels devoted to this…right? That’s how important that is, correct?
But yet, we understand God does not fill up His Word with unnecessary statements. Every Word has a purpose. Understanding this, we should be able to discern how important this subject matter is to God. He wants us to UNDERSTAND how important HE CONSIDERS speaking in divers tongues truly is to HIM!
Notice verse 2 in 1 Corinthians chapter 14, “For he that speaks in an unknown tongue speaks NOT TO MEN, but to GOD!” Paul is not talking here about ministering in a public meeting.
He is talking about communion with God the Father THROUGH the Holy Spirit! Praise God! This is for the individual believer to speak directly to God, cutting through the human filter of our minds and speaking on a direct “hot line” of sort with the Holy Father, who knows ALL THINGS. Amen!
What a privilege! But yet, there are many that say, “That’s not for us today…” FOOLS!
That would be like saying, “I know cell phones are good for some people, but if my kids need me, they can just wait until I get home in the evenings to talk to me. I don’t believe in any other method of communication.”
That would be silly, right?
I remember when, if you were away from the house and your car broke down, you tried to find a pay phone somewhere to call for help. I remember my car broke down on the highway, I had to walk almost 5 miles to the next exit, then another mile or so after that to a pay phone! It took me almost two hours just to walk to phone!
I appreciate having a cell phone on me today! Amen!
That is the same way we need to look at praying in tongues. It is our direct line to the Throne Room of God! Amen!
Yes, we can pray in our language – don’t get me wrong…
But when the communication is so important, God wants to impart a “Heavenly download” to your spirit man and not let the devil know what the plan is – divers tongues is how He will do it.
Do you want in on God’s Heavenly plans – especially concerning your life? Sure you do!
I want to pray for you right now to be willing to give God a chance. You gave Jesus a chance on Salvation and that worked, right? Give God a chance to share some things with you through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues. Amen!

Yesterday, I gave an example of a friend of mine who found herself in a spot where she had to pray in tongues in a remote village and the divers tongues the Holy Spirit provided was a language she did not understand – but the village did! It was a unique dialect that even the interpreter (who was not present with her at the time but arrived shortly after) did not know!
But sometimes, the divers tongues are meant for our own benefit. What do I mean by that.
I spoke to one person on my podcast and were discussing something that happened to him. He was ministering in India. They had an interpreter and he was ministering to a large crowd. Then, the Holy Ghost fell and many started to cry out to the Lord, speaking in tongues.
As he was on his knees praying, a woman approached and started to minister to him in perfect English. She talked about how God was going to send him on a special assignment, and gave some specific details. Some of the things she was saying were things he had been praying about. After she finished, she turned around and started to go back to her seat.
The man called out to her to thank her for the prayer, but she kept walking, ignoring him. The interpreter called to her and she stopped and turned around. The man asked her how she knew such perfect English. She did not understand a word he said! The interpreter asked and she replied shed did not speak English. She never had taken an English lesson in her life!
But when SHE was praying in other tongues – the missionary UNDERSTOOD the divers tongue being spoken while the speaker had no clue she was speaking English! Glory to God!
So divers tongues are for the hearers – not so much the speakers. When the Holy Spirit comes on the scene and there is an opportunity to speak in divers tongues – DON’T HOLD BACK!
You never know WHO that particular divers tongue is going to be for! Amen!
It could be, that in that session, someone you least expect could walk up to you and have a Word from the Lord directly for you! Perhaps it is something you have been praying about, seeking the Lord about or asking the Lord for direction, such as this person I interviewed!
Perhaps you will be led to speak in what is an unknown language to you – but will make perfect sense to those around you.
But, if you hold back, if you refuse to participate, then the Lord will not be able to use you. He will not be able to do greater works than these THROUGH YOU!
And that would be a travesty. Amen!
I want to pray for you right now to yield yourself to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. To do whatever needs to be done as the Holy Spirit leads. It could be laying hands on someone or just lifting them up to the Lord in prayer. But it could also be to publicly pray in divers tongues, perhaps when you least expect it. Those will be situations where you could be extremely surprised to find out “what the Lord has done!” Amen!
Let’s Pray!
