Hello, I'm Anna Mc Connell, Transformational Coach and Wardrobe Stylist.
I help women and Trans-women regain confidence to make the right choices for their Style, Image and Wardrobe.
With any transition in your life, whether it is a divorce, a wedding, a new job, a post baby or transitioning from male to female, I help you become the woman you longed to be.
When shopping with my clients, this is one of the main issues for women and a question I get asked all the time.
How can we conceal our tummy without covering up with shapeless tops and long jackets. Especially over 40, you don’t want to look pregnant or like a tent.
There are ways to minimize and look thinner.
- Divide and conquer
Think about the amount of fabric you are wearing. If Trousers cover your tummy completely or tops go all the way down over it, it just creates more bulges
.
Chose pants that divide your tummy and de-emphasizes the area.
Think about slanted pockets and side zippers instead of bulky zippers in the front.
Wider waistbands also work well
2) Choose tops that have A percentage of lycra, spandex or elastin. They will skim the body better
3) You can create an hourglass shape by letting your clothes do the work.
Opt for tops that have a heavier weight or built in structure, such as princess seams, darts and empire waists that have a slimming effect.
You can also play with color with garments that have color blocking for instance.
Avoid loose, boxy and shapeless tops.
4) In terms of belts, I would avoid wearing belts over your tummy If they come right under your bra line. We see a lot of women do this but it only emphasizes it. However a belt can be worn above an untucked top under a jacket. If the belt is peeking out from an open jacket it will be slimming.
The jacket prevents the eye from seeing the entire waistline therefore makes it look smaller. But only if you are wearing a jacket.
5) If you wear prints, bolder is better. Tiny prints have the contrary effect and make you look larger.
Colorful graphic prints fool the eye and therefore camouflages.
Ruching (the gathering on the sides) is another way to fool the eye
Creating a waistline is one of the most important things you can do. But you need to make strategic choices
We all have the power to create the image we desire with the body we currently have.
When shopping with my clients, we go over all these aspects;
= Does the garment showcase my waist
= Does it skim my body without being too tight or too loose
= We always check the construction of the garment, buttons, zippers, hem, pockets, seams, darts. All the elements to create a flattering fit.
= Does the garment highlight my assets and diminish my flaws. For this, you have to know what you want to enhance or conceal.
When the clothes fit correctly, you just carry yourself differently, with more confidence.
Your clothes express your personality, so don’t be afraid to shine.
Celebrate your shape through clothing and make dressing fun again.
I hope these tips have helped.
