  • 179. Carol McLeod: A Voice of Hope

Carol McLeod's 17th book, "Overflowing: Living Abundantly in a Broken Culture", inspires readers to embrace a life of abundance and joy, regardless of their current circumstances. Filled with biblical wisdom, practical advice, and personal stories, this seven-week study of the book of Colossians helps readers shift their perspectives in order to live a life filled with purpose and joy. According to Carol, "Every generation has been invited to live fully and enthusiastically in Christ, despite the lies and brokenness of their culture."

This episode takes a divine leap when host Sue Duffield and Carol McLeod get past the potential facade of a scripted-like interview, and move towards a more vulnerable and Holy Spirit-led interaction.

Loving difficult people and loving adult children takes on a whole new meaning when Carol says, "Loving those difficult people should bring out Jesus in us." Carol also shares about her dad and his simple devout faith, teaching her to love the Word of God as a young child.

But the highlight of this episode happens when Carol tells her story about Corrie ten Boom's coat and the impression it had on her. It is truly an experience that's worth more than gold. Much like putting on the coat of a true heroine of the faith, God's Word can also be like that cloak or covering when going to battle. "You can make it through hard times; even battling infertility, or losing babies, or depression, or cancer and even having hope with prodigal children. The Word of God will fight for you and help you through this battle." - Carol McLeod

  • 178. Raise Your Standard of Giving

Most will say that when God prospers, it's then you can raise the standard of living. Not so in the Duffield's case. Raising the standard of "giving" has become the ultimate joy for them and It literally has become a thrill of a journey to be able to bless others as God blesses them. The act of giving triggers a natural release of endorphins in our brains, making us feel happier, called, and more fulfilled. The connection with others that comes from fulfilling a need or blessing someone who isn't expecting it, deepens a sense of unity and compassion within our communities.

This off-the-cuff episode, fun as it is, is just a simple reminder that God is NOT a respector of persons, nor is He selective in who He positions for favor. The bottom line is obedience, then being ready to receive and ask God for open doors to benefit others. Becoming that funnel and channel of blessing is absolutely fun!

  • 177. Traveling Well

Traveling as a couple doubles the fun, the ease and the experiences while helping to endure and entertain the journey. Jeff & Sue Duffield share and continue to learn new travel tips, old roaming tricks and simple trek ideas to make the circumnavigating enjoyable on the road (and in the air), especially after fifty years! So, not much learnin' takes place on this episode, but it is a fun capsule of what's ahead for the next two weeks for the Duffields. Thanks for praying for their safety and also believing with them for some opportunities to be a Jesus-face to the world! (Go Phillies! In London!)

The Apostle Paul traveled much, but also understood the risks and rewards too.

  • 176. Bought With A Much Higher Price

The stakes are high when it comes to travel, safety and putting yourself out there on the road. Sue Duffield, along with her husband Jeff, start off this episode with a little update on the hard price of traveling the highways, the bi-ways and the oh-so-crazy ways of unforseen circumstances. Being t-boned at an intersection not long after falling on the pavement at the post office, put a little apprehension into Sue's style of always being confident and jovial. But yet, somehow she seems to find her "ground" again (in a good way!), and is very thankful that her recent debacles weren't a whole lot worse.

The devotion of "The Price Is Right" follows their dialogue, describing the horrific sex trafficking industry and Sue's personal account of seeing it first hand. Children for sale? Not on her watch. The travesty is that girls and boys are sold and it's becoming worse with every day. Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice for every soul born into this world, and THAT price - when it comes to being sold - is right.

Sue ends with her song, "The Price is Right", written in 2011 for ®Duffield Music, BMI (used with permission)

"He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time." Ecclesiastes 3:11

  • 175. How's Your Balance?

Jeff & Sue Duffield are as unpredictably predictable in just about everything they are and everything they do! This episode starts out with the typical banter of two people who do just about everything together, but are as opposite as night and day in so many things. Jeff's production and orchestration opportunities are flourishing and building every day, while Sue has had some down time recently to recharge, reboot and balance out her life a bit..

Balance, in definition, is "an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady..", which is kind of funny when this particular episode starts out with recounting Sue's recent tumble on the pavement at the post office. But when it comes to balance and the walk of life of every Christian, be it like Sue to merge the physical with the spiritual. The four lessons that Jesus taught her during a month-long journey of seeking balance, just might apply to you too.

  • 173. Setting the Atmosphere for God to Work

After receiving an email from a woman who described her difficulties with her husband, her finances and her whole disposition, Sue Duffield (host) reads on to see how much God made a difference in this woman's life after a recent church service setting where little was spoken about marriage, finances or even depresion.

It may come to a surprise to some worship leaders, Christian singers and even pastors - whatever YOU think might work in a worship service or church event to inspire, doesn't always change lives. In fact, it's quite certain that the Holy Spirit (if given room) will do more for the atmosphere of worship than any planned or pre-programmed style of agenda or order of service.

And here's one example.. where God took over, and nothing else mattered.

  • 171. Unnoticed

If you've ever felt unnoticed, invisible or insignificant, then the news of the Samaritan woman that Jesus empowered, will give you all you need. People like her were thought outcasts and even inferior, but so were many who were attracted to Jesus anyway. Do you even feel the gratification of honor? Many don't. This episode is a glance at the true possibility that this Samaritan woman, disregarded as nothing, could have very well been the first evangelist - telling others of "the man who told me everything I've ever done." There is no "one size fits all" in the Kingdom. Praise God for the indivduality He gives us.

  • 170. Scattered, Covered and Smothered

Sue Duffield's experience with Waffle House is such a fun and meaningful encounter - almost like church! Are you "scattered, covered and smothered?" The thought here is, she surely hopes you are!

When we ask God to forgive us, His forgiveness comes not because we say, "I will do better", but only on the basis of what Jesus did on the cross. No matter how awful we've been, the blood of Jesus is ENOUGH to cleanse, purify and save you...kind of like scattering your sin, covering your heart and smothering you with His goodness! God, the Father sent Jesus to suffer, bleed and die so that He can forgive you. Wow! Take a few minutes to bask in the Light of that statement..
