God places a high value on community. And because the community is so often fractured in so many ways, forgiveness and reconciliation are the raw materials from which Christian community is built.

Creating new things can be hard work, but the Bible reminds us that creating isn't just any work--creating is GOD'S work. Every time we create something good we are engaging in the work of God.

What does it mean to say that the Holy Spirit is like wind and fire? It means that God's spirit is both gentle and powerful; both within our grasp and beyond our ability to control; both readily accessible and beyond our comprehension. Above all, it means that we have everything we need and more to build God's church.

Sometimes building the church can seem like an insurmountable task. On Memorial Day weekend and Ascension Sunday, though, we remember that it is the great task remainging before us--and one that Christ has equipped us to do.

God uses ordinary people who have experienced the power of the resurrection to do extraordinary things. We don't have to be perfect. God can use us anyway.

God uses people willing to extend hospitality to build God's church. Never underestimate what a simple gesture of hospitality might lead to. And never underestimate how God might use you to build God's church

The trick isn't to convince people that there are things worthy of our worship. The world is full of objects to which people are already fully devoted. So the trick isn't to convince people that gods exist--the trick is to introduce people to a new God.

God uses people willing to challenge the gods of the marketplace to build God's church.
