Should what we give or do for others come back to us through others as well? Many times we have sown forgiveness, but don't receive it from another when we needed it. Or we sow friendship, kindness, understanding, etc. expecting to have it come back upon us but it doesn't always happen that way. What is the hang up here? Sowing and reaping does work right? A slight misunderstanding can cause our expectation to be off, and when what we expect to happen, doesn't .... well our faith takes a hit. We didn't finish looking at all we planned for last Sunday, so we continue it this morning looking at the life of king David. Our goal is to understand when and if we should expect what we have sown to come back to us through the hands of others.

Looking at the principle of binding and loosing that Jesus taught His disciples in Matthew 16 and 18, we see the same principle demonstrated in the life of Abraham. Abraham himself bound up the very promise God wanted to send to him until he finally made changes that caused his life to change for the better.

Jesus teaches that whatever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and the same for what we loose. Most people understand and apply this teaching in a way not consistent with the context nor with the example story Jesus gives right after, nor even with what people in the Bible do walking out this principle. So, where did we go wrong and what is Jesus teaching us to do?
