Ten Minute Truth | 1 Corinthians 1:18-31

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”

20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22  Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”

In this episode, I share 15 rhythms that we do or have done with our children as we long to intentionally teach them about Jesus + show them what it looks like to follow Jesus. Most of these are SO small and nothing crazy. SO many that I learned from other moms that have gone before me, or ideas I heard and changed for what worked best for our fam. My prayer is that these encourage and stir up ideas/rhythms that you can incorporate in your own home! 


A little outline of the episode(all of these are explained further in the episode):

INTRO/PREFACE:  It starts with US following and abiding in the Living God! It will be out of the overflow of us knowing, enjoying, and glorifying God that will have the most impact on our children. 

DISCLAIMER: None of these are cute and tidy. None of these are done perfectly. Perfection is never the goal. Pursuing, enjoying and depending on Jesus is. 🤎

1. Explicitly Sharing the Gospel with our Kids (Listen to Episode 61)  

2. Nighttime Book Routine - 1 Bible Story & 1 Chapter of Kid’s Pilgrims Progress 

3. Family Bible (real bible)/Prayer Time

4. Why were you made? "To know God, to enjoy God, to glorify God."

5. “God created you, God loves you, God is kind to you, God is relentlessly pursuing you.”  (First three from Like Me by Laura Wifler)

6. Why do I love you? /Why does God love you?
"Because I’m your son/daughter."
Is there anything you could do to make me love you more or less? 
"No."

7. Today is the day the Lord has made…I will rejoice and be glad in it! 
Where does our joy/gladness come from?

8. Prayer

9. Thanks God

10. Verse Memorization

11. The New City Catechism 

12. Prayer in the Car

13. Repetition 

14. Patience is waiting with a happy heart.

What if we explicitly shared the gospel with our kids every day?

What if we took seriously the mission field of our HOMES— these precious, tiny ears that God has called us to disciple and help form. We have a responsibility, and it’s an EXCITING ONE. God is the one who saves, the pressure is entirely off, and also He’s entrusted us to share the best news we’ve ever heard with these tiny humans that we spend the most time with. Let’s not take this role lightly— but let’s be parents who intentionally, relentlessly share the gospel with our kiddos. Handing them the puzzle pieces, pleading to the Lord that He would bring understanding and help them put the puzzle together someday. Amen? LET’S DO IT. 💪🏼

What if in our friendships, along with asking the deep, hard, good questions to encourage and keep each other accountable in our walks with Jesus— what if we also kept encouraging and keeping one another accountable in the discipleship of our kids?
What if a normal question in our friendships was— how have you been leading your kiddos to Christ lately? Or “Let’s both share the gospel with our kiddos today!!” Not covering your question/encouragement with ANY condemnation/judgment. (Romans 8:1) But for the sake of spurring on, encouraging, learning from each other, growing together, and challenging one another in the discipleship of our kids.
The gates of hell would really hate that.
