Sermon on Luke 13:1-9, 31-35. This is the second sermon in our Lenten sermon series called Man of Sorrows.
Isaiah describes the Messiah as a "man of sorrows" and "familiar with suffering." During the season of Lent, we'll learn about the sorrows of Jesus, sorrows which come from unexpected places. Each week, the source of Jesus' sorrow will move closer to his inner circle, forcing his followers (including us) to confess the ways they have missed the kingdom he wants to bring. These sorrows reveal to us the ways we can honor God as we prepare for Easter Sunday.
In this sermon, we explore how instead of seeing us as scapegoats or idols, Jesus reminds us of our need for repentance and the rich mercy of God.
