Matthew 5:13-48

The book of Matthew was written to convince Jews that Jesus was the Messiah – the King they had bee looking for and longing for. They did not see him that way because he did not come like any other king had come before. One became a King by lineage or power. Jesus’s kingship and kingdom ways resembled none of the kingdoms that had come before him or existed in his day. It was an upside down kingdom and as such was rejected by many but some came to realize the radical nature of what Jesus was ushering in and embraced this kingdom as the one that led to true freedom, prosperity and life.
