On this podcast Maanda Tshifularo (SuperLead CEO) interviewed Salome Maswime who is an Associate Professor and Head of Global Surgery at the University of Cape Town. Salome is also an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, and the President of the South African Clinician Scientists Society. She is a global surgery expert and an advocate for woman’s health rights and equity in surgical and maternal care. She is a consultant and advisor for many organizations including the World Health Organization. After completing her PhD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Salome pursued her post doctorate in Global Surgery at Howard University.
On this interview, Salome talks about how her pursuit for excellence in her field led to a successful and fulfilling career. She was driven by not accepting things how they were but she continuously asked herself what she could do to improve patient outcomes and ensuring that she upskilled herself to be the person who would provide patients with better healthcare. Salome shares how she balances her demanding life using the 20/80 rule to determine what things to focus on and what to shelve. This has helped her to concentrate more on the things that matter most
